Take Steps to Maintain Your Arc Flash Safety Devices

Maintaining your electrical equipment is necessary to avoid downtime and to keep your electrical system functioning safely and reliably. It is also important to maintain CBS ArcSafe devices you use to remotely operate your equipment from outside the arc flash boundary.

Our remote racking systems, remote switch actuators and remote switch kits, remote switch operators, and Chicken Switch devices keep technicians safe when they’re working on electrical equipment. Proper maintenance of your CBS ArcSafe devices is crucial to safety.

Behind the Scenes

CBS ArcSafe recently received an order for 18 RRS-3 PBII devices to be shipped to a customer in the oil and gas industry in Saudi Arabia. When the team in Denton was awarded the project in August, they got to work building the devices. Tori Gomez (pictured above) was one of the breaker technicians tasked with building the remote racking systems.

The RRS-3 PBII allows technicians to remotely install and remove a breaker while standing up to 300 feet away. Designed to operate the General Electric PowerBreak II (GE PBII) circuit breaker without the need to modify existing electrical equipment, the RRS-3 PB II is compatible with PowerBreak II circuit breakers with ratings of 800, 1600, 2500, 3000, and 4000 A. Typical applications for the GE PBII breaker include providing circuit protection, limiting arc fault energy, and preserving system coordination in 280 VAC, 480 VAC, and 600 VAC power systems.

With our remote operation equipment, CBS ArcSafe helps customers worldwide prevent arc flash injury to personnel. Contact us today to make sure you have what you need.

CBS ArcSafe Product Spotlight

The CBS ArcSafe RRS-3 MDSR1 is a single-application remote racking system (RRS) that allows operators to install and remove circuit breakers while standing outside the arc flash hazard zone (50 feet away from the operation).

The system’s motor attaches quickly to a breaker’s racking mechanism. The drive element goes through the racking window and is attached by lowering the latch into the lockout/tagout device. The motor detaches just as easily. Watch this video to see how it works.

The RRS-3 MDSR1 features an onboard video camera with a digital display, allowing users to remotely monitor a breaker’s position indicator, racking sequence, and applied torque. The system is designed to operate Eaton/Cutler-Hammer Magnum DS and SB air circuit breakers without any modifications to existing electrical equipment and is compatible with breakers with ratings of 800 to 4000 A.
