Ceiling Fans
Use these tips to optimize the function of your household fixtures

Spin Direction: Summer vs. Winter

Ceiling fans have a simple switch that reverses the direction of rotation from clockwise to counterclockwise. This small adjustment can improve airflow, cut down your heating or cooling bill, and make you feel more comfortable.

The fan direction in summer should be counterclockwise to create a downdraft, providing a direct, cooling breeze. Your fan direction in winter needs to be clockwise to create an updraft and circulate warm air around the room. Depending on the fan, this switch could be up/down or left/right.
Regular Cleaning
No matter how tidy we keep our homes, dust and pet hair can easily collect on ceiling fans when in constant use.
  1. Turn off both your fan and light from the wall switch.
  2. Place a sturdy chair or step ladder underneath.
  3. Wipe each blade with a damp cloth or duster to cut down on allergens in the environment. Clean each glass or plastic light globe, bulb, and the pull chain. Compressed air can be used to spray the fan motor housing.
