Principal's Message
We are at the end of April and we will be sprinting through our last month of the school year. The nicer weather sure has been great and we are finally getting some of these nice days for our Spring Activities as we have had a lot of cold and windy days for Track and Tennis.
We are underway this week with our State Assessments starting with our 8th grade Science. Next week, we will be starting our ELA and Math State Assessments for 6th-8th grades on Monday, May 3 through Thursday, May 6. During the Assessments we will have a block schedule: The block scheduling will be alternating A and B days. The A days will be 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th hours and B days will be 2nd, 4th, 6th and Encor. Each class period will be ninety minutes. Please check your students schedule during these testing dates and avoid pulling your student out for appointments so they can be tested on their regularly scheduled day and avoid make-up testing. A days will be Tuesday, May 4th and Thursday, May 6th and B days will be Monday, May 3rd and Wednesday, May 5th. We wish the students the best of luck on the State Assessments!
We are excited to share that after our submission to the Flippen group for Capturing Kids’ Hearts, we were selected as a National Showcase School for the third year in a row. I am proud of the recognition and so thankful for the awesome MMS community. As I have shared before, I believe our teachers/staff already do a great job with building positive relationships with our students and the CKH model helps foster even more positive relationships with each other throughout Maize Middle School. I truly think it makes an impact and I am excited to continue to foster positive relationships and experiences for all students.
Next week is Teacher Appreciation week and I wanted to give a Shout Out to all of our Awesome Teachers and Staff. They have done a fabulous job in this crazy year with having to pivot and change throughout the year while continuing to give their best to our students every day. I am so thankful for the wonderful teachers we have part of the MMS family. Take a moment and Thank a Teacher and show your appreciation.
I look forward to a positive and strong finish to the school year! It will definitely go fast!

Nurse's Corner
By the time you are reading this, we will be down to less than 4 weeks of school. It is definitely time to look at your student's immunization records! INCOMING 7th graders are required to have a TDaP booster and a Meningococcal ACWY vaccine. Please do yourself and your student a favor and get these done early! It will be one less thing to have to worry about as next year approaches. Your doctor's office will appreciate it as well.
Just a reminder that we can still do the Rapid Covid Test for any student that has symptoms. This is free of charge. Just give me a call to schedule one if needed!
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me!! I am here to help in any way I can!

World Languages
Finally, everything looks like we will be able to open our eyes again to the world; we will have our traditional trip during summer 2022. This time we will have two different trips, not just one. Yes! You are going to be able to choose between Ireland and Scotland in June 2022 and Japan in July the same summer. Traditionally we have just one destination per year so this is a great opportunity. We have all the information in these two links:
Remember that this is an open invitation for all our MMS community! My email is [email protected]

Attendance/Tardies
Attendance Counts:
Regular attendance is necessary to fully realize the benefits of educational opportunities. Students are expected to be present and punctual for all classes throughout the year. The responsibility of school attendance is with the student and his/her parents. Parents/guardians should notify the school via our attendance line in the event the student will be absent. Excused absences include illness verified by a doctor, appointments with a doctors note, school sponsored activities, funerals or administrative approved absences. Due to the pandemic, parents are encouraged to provide a doctors note for appointments and illnesses.
When your student is absent:
- Please call 729-2464 and leave a message with the student's name (and spelling)
- Provide a reason for the absence (ill, out of town, appointment, etc.)
- If you plan to have your student out of school for 3 or more days, stop by the MMS office to pick up an administrative approval form
