Around 10:00 AM on March 21, 2020, Majestic Association Management learned of a rumor of a possible COVID-19 case involving a rental guest at Majestic Beach Towers. This rumor was confirmed a few hours later by the rental manager for the involved unit.
We are still trying to piece together details, and have reached out to the County and State Health Departments for guidance and information. As of this writing, Paul Shamblin has spoken with the State Health Department, but they were unable and unwilling to provide much information beyond the standard instructions to keep social distance, wash hands, and clean surfaces frequently. Association Management will continue to seek advice from governmental authorities, and will share with you what we can and when we can.
Unfortunately, privacy laws and HIPPA prevent us from disclosing any details that we are aware of that would violate the privacy of the individuals involved.
Here is what we can tell you: The rental guest and his family, all from out of state, checked into Majestic Beach Tower II on Saturday, March 14
. A member of the guest’s family signed in to use the fitness center on Monday, March 16
. It is unclear whether the guest in question also used the fitness center. Unrelated to the usage by the guest, the Association closed the fitness center during the afternoon of March 16
, along with the hot tubs. The guest became ill within the last 48 hours and sought medical attention at a local facility. The guest is now hospitalized. The family of the guest was instructed to return to the rental unit in Majestic Beach Tower II and self-quarantine there. Insofar as we know, the family may currently be inside the unit, but we have not spoken with them and will not do so until instructed to do so by the appropriate governmental authority.
IMPORTANT: PAUL SHAMBLIN AND JIMMY LEWIS HAVE SPOKEN VIA CONFERENCE CALL WITH THE OWNER OF THE INVOLVED UNIT. AGAIN, INSOFAR AS WE KNOW, ONLY ONE UNIT IS INVOLVED. IF WE HAVE NOT SPOKEN WITH YOU OVER THE PHONE TODAY ABOUT THIS INCIDENT, THEN YOUR UNIT IS NOT THE UNIT IN QUESTION.
We have not been asked by the State Health Department to track the movements and possible encounters with this individual or his family, and doing so would be difficult. However, as has been relayed to you in previous recent communications, the Association Maintenance Staff has increased the frequency of cleaning of all commonly used surfaces, including elevators and elevator call buttons.
At this point, we have not received any additional reports of health concerns from employees, owners, rental management companies, or guests of additional possible infections.
The health and safety of our employees, owners, rental guests, and visitors is our highest priority. Effective immediately, all pools, hot tubs, fitness center, movie theater, conference centers, and meeting rooms are closed until further notice.
If you believe that you or one of your guests may have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus, please research and closely follow CDC Guidelines, and also always be sure to closely follow CDC guidelines for prevention and limitation of spreading the virus.
We are certain that many of you will have more questions. However, we have disclosed all the information we have, that can legally be shared without violating the guest's privacy. We will report more as information becomes available and does not violate applicable privacy laws.
