Future U Construction: Reaches New Milestones!

The Future U project continues to make significant progress as construction advances on both the renovation and expansion of the University Student Union (USU).

Following the reopening of the Friendship Walk stairs in May 2026, the project team is preparing for several major construction milestones that will provide the campus community with visible updates on the transformation of the future USU.

Upcoming Project Milestones: 2026 - 2028

Spring 2027

Foundations and major structural work are anticipated to be complete, including the steel structure erection for the expansion building and exterior work on the renovation building.

Fall 2027

Both the renovation and expansion buildings are anticipated to be fully enclosed with roofing, glazing and exterior systems installed, allowing crews to begin extensive interior finish work.

Spring 2028

Exterior construction on the expansion building is anticipated to be substantially complete, while interior finishes throughout the renovation building continue toward completion ahead of the projected Summer 2028 reopening.

These milestones will help provide the campus community with bi-annual visual progress updates as the largest student union project in the CSU system continues to take shape.
