Westchase District. Where everything comes together and works | | Enroute to 45th Mile, Tour de Houston Makes Stop at Title Sponsor Apache's Westchase HQ
Thousands of cyclists took to the streets on April 12 as the City of Houston, alongside longtime presenting sponsor Apache Corporation, hosted the annual Tour de Houston. Now in its 19th year, the ride once again brought the community together for a day of fitness, connection, and city pride. Westchase District eagerly accepted an invitation from the City of Houston Parks and Recreation Department to join the ride and be part of this citywide celebration of community and movement. Starting from downtown, riders of all levels tackled 10-, 20-, and 45-mile routes, experiencing Houston’s neighborhoods and greenspaces along the way. Riders took breaks at Memorial Park, Tanglewood, Westside High School and Apache's Westchase headquarters at 2000 W. Sam Houston Parkway in One BriarLake Plaza. More than just a ride, the event supports the city’s Re-Plant Houston initiative, helping fund tree planting and urban beautification efforts across the region.
With Apache’s continued support, the Tour de Houston remains a powerful example of how public-private partnerships can drive meaningful impact, on and off the road.

In space, a single sentence turned a crisis into one of NASA’s most legendary missions - “Houston, we’ve got a problem.” This summer, we’re tipping our hat to space city with a much lighter twist: the only problem you’ll face is deciding which movie -and which park - to enjoy first.
Our summer movie series brings two great locations and a lineup of films perfect for all ages. At Camden Park, the series kicks off June 5 with Zootopia 2, followed by the unforgettable true story Apollo 13 on June 19. July continues with the inspiring underdog story Miracle on July 3 and wraps up with David on July 17.
| | | |
Over at Woodchase Park, join us June 12 for the imaginative adventure A Minecraft Movie, and come back July 10 for the action-packed favorite National Treasure.
Bring your lawn chairs, gather your friends and family, and come early to grab your favorite snacks (trust us, the popcorn lives up to the hype). From animated adventures to inspiring true stories, it’s all part of a summer designed for easy nights, great company, and movies under the stars. | | | The Next Generation of Leaders: Alief ISD School Campus Elevates, Empowers Young Women
Alief ISD is set to open an exciting new chapter in education with the launch of The Young Women’s Leadership School (TYWLS) in the upcoming school year - a campus designed to empower, inspire, and elevate young women to reach their fullest potential.
Choosing the right school is one of the most important decisions families make. At TYWLS of Alief ISD, that decision comes with the promise of a nurturing and academically rigorous environment where every girl is seen, heard, supported, and challenged. More than just a school, TYWLS is being built as a community dedicated to developing confident leaders and lifelong learners.
Leading this transformative initiative is Founding Principal Tamara V. Albury, who brings more than 20 years of experience in Texas education. Her leadership includes guiding a nationally ranked all-girls school where every student graduated -many becoming the first in their families to attend college. With that proven track record, Albury is committed to ensuring that TYWLS Alief becomes a place where excellence is the standard and opportunity is abundant.
“At The Young Women’s Leadership School of Alief ISD, we are building more than a school, we are creating a place where every girl is seen, heard, supported, and challenged to reach her full potential,” said Albury.
The foundation of TYWLS is rooted in three core pillars: Responsible Leadership, College Preparedness, and Health & Wellness. These guiding principles will shape both the academic and personal growth of every student who walks through its doors. Applications are still open for students entering 6-7th grade in fall 2026.
