Like most folks, I started 2022 hoping for the imminent arrival of a “new normal.” Whatever that may be, and whenever it may come, I’m confident we’ll draw upon lessons learned as we navigate the pandemic’s opaque path.
As your City Manager for the past eight years, the last 24 months have reinforced how special Worcester is. Across neighborhoods I’ve seen residents volunteer at homeless shelters, at emergency vaccination clinics, at nursing homes, and at testing sites like the Mercantile Center.
You’ve helped your neighbors by delivering meals and medications; you’ve supported and sustained local businesses; you’ve masked up; you’ve patiently handled the unpredictable challenges presented by this persistent pandemic.
About COVID: Delta didn’t defeat us and Omicron won’t overcome us.
Programs offered by organizations like the MassHire Central Region Career Centers play an important role in our economic recovery: If you’re unemployed, underemployed, or seeking a new career, I strongly encourage you to look into resources offered by the career centers and the Worcester Jobs Fund.
Please accept my profound gratitude for your resilience as well as best wishes for a healthy, happy, and fulfilling 2022.
Sincerely,
Edward M. Augustus, Jr.
City Manager
