Greetings!
The worldwide celebration of
Earth Day
is Sunday, April 22. In Steamboat, Earth Day often goes by without much fanfare, as the ski area closes and many head out of town to escape mud season.
No matter where you are on Earth Day, you can take the spirit of the day with you and tag us on Instagram at @yvsustainabilitycouncil. In honor of Earth Day, YVSC also has many events in April and May to reduce our collective carbon footprint, build a resilient community and celebrate our public lands. Read on to learn more.
With gratitude,
Sarah Jones
YVSC Executive Director

Pledge to reduce your carbon footprint
|
Earth Day is an annual reminder of the need for all of us to work together to protect our local--and global--environment. This year, the global Earth Day campaign is focused on the proliferation of plastic pollution and the damage plastics cause to every single ecosystem on the planet.
Saying “No” to single-use stuff, remembering your reusable bag when you shop, and going plastic free at home are some of the actions suggested in
YVSC’s climate action pledge
. Check out the other actions and commit to just two to reduce your carbon footprint this year.

Register for the Tour de Steamboat before prices increase June 1
|
Saturday, July 21
Did you know you can ride your bike and support YVSC at the same time? YVSC is one of the four beneficiary nonprofits for the
Tour de Steamboat
, and the Tour is YVSC's biggest--and only--fundraising event.
This non-competitive ride offers four distances for cyclists of all ages and abilities--26, 46, 66 and 116 miles. You don't want to miss this ride--gorgeous scenery, phenomenal aid stations and a fun post-ride barbecue at Little Toots Park with local microbrews. Registration fees go up June 1, and the ride sold out last year, so don't wait!

Your recycling questions answered:
Recycle your medications to keep our water clean
|
Q: Can medications be recycled?
A: Yes. Did you know flushing down the toilet or throwing away unused or unwanted medications can pollute our river and water supplies? Drop off your medications at the Routt County Sheriff’s office during business hours.
A full list of medications accepted is available here.
