Picture the rooms in your house. There's probably a common item in all of them; a trash
can! And what do you do when trash day rolls around? You collect all the trash cans from
around the house and empty them into one big trash bag that gets put out at the curb.
Why not do the same with recycling bins? We challenge you to make recycling as easy as
taking out the trash (minus the plastic bags) by placing a recycling bin next to your trash cans throughout your house. You might be thinking you don't have room for a trash can and a recycling bin, but take a look at your trash can? Do you really need one that big? How often do you empty it? You could downsize your trash can to make room for a recycling bin. You may even find that you need a larger recycling bin and a smaller trash can! And if you're worried about cost, dollar stores have a great selection of inexpensive containers.
A few things to remember:
- You don't have to sort items as shown below, but it is a fun way to get kids involved and learning about recycling.
-
No plastic bags. You may collect your trash in a plastic bag but we do not want plastic bags at the recycling facility. Notice in the images below that the containers for collecting recycling do not have a plastic bag in them. Simply empty the bucket of recyclables directly into your curbside cart or into the bin at the drop-off site.
- Keeping your recyclables empty, clean and dry will help you maintain no odors in your collection area and will help keep your collection containers clean.
However you decide to set up your recycling collection, fun or simple, you can make it easy!
