Quotes for Life

Put These in Your Pipe &
Smoke 'Em

"In a perfect friendship...each member feels, in his secret heart, humbled before the rest. Sometimes he wonders what he is doing there among his betters. Especially when the whole group is together; each bringing out all that is best, wisest, or funniest in the others." - C.S. Lewis

"Technology has, in an enhanced way, given mockers a platform to set society on fire with polarizing speech. Internet culture privileges those whose insults are click bait. It disadvantages the civil, respectful, patient dialogue that brings a diverse people together."
- Tim Keller

"We create technologies in our own image and, soon enough, they return the favor."
- Marshall McLuhan

"The local church should be the antidote to both individualism and tribalism, a place where each person stands individually before God and as a member of a new people and family."
- Jonathan Leeman

"A time will come when instead of shepherds feeding the sheep, the church will have clowns entertaining the goats."
- Charles Haddon Spurgeon

"I hear people say, "I am a Christian, because I made a decision for Christ." The Bible never directs us to base our assurance on a decision, but on the finished work of Christ on the cross.
Never rob God of glory because you want to take credit for making a decision." - Dustin Benge

Before John Paton took the Gospel to cannibal tribes on the New Hebrides Islands, a Mr. Dickson rebuked him, "You'll be eaten by cannibals! Paton replied, "If I can but live and die serving the Lord Jesus, it will make no difference whether I am eaten by cannibals or by worms."
- Garrett Kell
"There is a Mean Violent Streak to the True Christian Life." But Against Whom or What?
"There is a mean streak to authentic self-control. Self-control is not for the timid. When we want to grow in it, not only do we nurture an exuberance for Jesus Christ, we also demand of ourselves a hatred for sin. The only possible attitude toward out-of-control desire is a declaration of all-out war. There is something about war that sharpens the senses. You hear a twig snap or the rustling of leaves and you are in attack mode. Someone coughs and you are ready to pull the trigger. Even after days of little or no sleep, war keeps us vigilant."

The Story of How a Former KKK Terrorist Became a Champion of Racial Reconciliation
We want to give you a heads-up about a remarkable new autobiography just being released by Thomas Nelson Publishers about my long-time friend and colleague Dr. Tom Tarrants (President Emeritus of the C.S. Lewis Institute) -- titled:

Back in the 60's, Tom was an infamous white supremacist, KKK terrorist and the law's most-wanted criminal. Then something began to happen to Tom that gives us an amazing saga of the transformative power of the gospel to save the most hardened hearts among us.

Given all the headlines, debate and division today about racism and white supremacy, Tom's rescued life offers great encouragement and hope in the sovereign grace of our Almighty God. We highly recommended this riveting, "can't put down" book. HERE

Also,  World Magazine recently featured Tom's story in an article about those who've been delivered from the hatred and violence of racism. HERE

Also, check out Tom's testimony in the September 2019 issue of Christianity Today - Here

THE HOUND OF HEAVEN
"[My faith is] due to Jesus Christ himself, who pursued me relentlessly even when I was running away from him in order to go my own way. And if it were not for the gracious pursuit of the hound of heaven I would today be on the scrap-heap of wasted and discarded lives." - John Stott (1921-2011) - one of church's great pastor-theologians

Masculinity to the Rescue: The Chivalry Instinct, the Noble Side of Masculinity, Causes Men to Run Toward Danger to Protect Others
When a knife-wielding killer went on a bloody rampage through the streets of Sydney, Australia, this week, he was stopped in his tracks by a group of courageous men using just a milk crate and a chair.

We saw it in the El Paso and Dayton massacres. There was David Johnson, 63, who pushed his wife and 9-year-old granddaughter to safety under a counter at the El Paso Walmart before he was fatally shot.

Or take 21-year-old Riley Howell, who charged at a gunman shooting up his classroom at the University of North Carolina Charlotte, in April and managed to knock him to the ground. Howell was killed but his heroic act saved the lives of up to 30 classmates. Read More

How to Stop Praying for the Same Old Things
We are told in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 to "pray without ceasing." The problem for many of us is that prayer can become a boring exercise of, in the words of Dr.
Don Whitney, "praying the same old things about the same old things." In this article Whitney describes how praying through Scripture can revolutionize your prayer life and lift it from the rut of mindless repetition.Read More

Does Evil's Existence Argue Against God?
A few years ago world renowned Christian apologist Ravi Zacharias was asked that very question by a student at the University of Nottingham.

Zacharias responded that the idea of evil implies the idea of good. The idea of good implies a moral law to differentiate good from evil. A moral law implies the existence of a lawgiver. Ravi further explained, "So, if there is no moral lawgiver, there is no moral law; if there is no moral law, there is no absolute good; if there is no good, there is no evil. You see in using the idea of evil to argue against the existence of God, you are actually assuming that God exists."

Ravi pressed in, 'So how do you distinguish good and bad, by what faculty?' The student replied...Read More
Still Doing Together What We Cannot Do Alone
WACMM remains after these 20+ years a unique all-volunteer, non-profit, nondenominational ministry to resource and encourage churches in their ministries to men.
We have valued your support and prayers in what we believe is the most challenging and difficult ministry in the church, and its most important. For as go the men, so go the marriages, the families, the churches, the communities and the culture.

We always appreciate and benefit from your ideas and feedback about this monthly e-newsletter. Encourage friends and families to sign up!
