Feeding Pets of the Homeless®
is the first and one of the few national nonprofits providing pet food and emergency veterinary care to pets that belong to homeless people.
A note from our Founder
Dear Friends,

I hope this message finds you and your family doing well. We are still working remotely and learning new ways to stay connected while physically distant. Thank you for your patience as the entire staff has adapted to a new normal. We remain committed to providing excellent service to our supporters, Donation Sites, Pet Food Providers and the homeless. I know I speak for others when I say we are grateful for all your support so that we can continue to help pets of the homeless in communities across the country.

On September 1st, rent will be due for millions of Americans. The CARES Act eviction moratorium expired on July 24th–and localities in many states have once again begun to evict tenants behind on rent, even though the COVID-19 pandemic continues to claim thousands of lives. If further protections or assistance do not come to pass, as many as 40 million people could be displaced from their homes over the next year, according to the Aspen Institute.  With between 49%-68% of households having pets, what will happen to all the pets that will become homeless along with their families? As of the end of August, our staff took over 5,700 calls asking for pet food, veterinary care and looking for a homeless shelter that would allow pets. We will certainly be taking more calls as homeless with pets need our help. My heart goes out to those affected.

Take good care of yourself, those you love, and your fur babies. Know that we are thinking of you.

Warmest regards,
Genevieve Frederick

Success Stories
Your generous donations at work
Garfield

A woman has been homeless for about 18 months and lives in a tent in the Van Nuys, CA area. She heard about us through Animal Tears Rescue when her cat, Garfield, was hit by a car and dragging her leg. We verified her homelessness with a pastor of a local church and we approved an examination at a local partner veterinary clinic.
Tank

A man has been homeless for over 7 years. Currently, he is living in his van fighting prostate cancer and lives with his companion Tank, a 12-year-old neutered male Pit Bull mix. He gets SNAP benefits, but he seeks out additional food and hygiene services at churches and the local Salvation Army. Feeding Pets of the Homeless® first met the duo in May 2019. Tank had been limping for six months, but the limp had become more pronounced and he appeared to be in pain. He was examined at one of our veterinary partner hospitals and it was determined that the best course of care was pain management.
Staff Member Highlight
Renee Lowry
Executive Director

Renee has been with Feeding Pets of the Homeless for eight years.

"Feeding Pets of the Homeless is important to me because we are saving the lives of pets owned by homeless people. These precious pets are the lifeline to these people."

Renee added, "We had an emergency case once where the homeless gentleman was far away from the veterinary hospital and put his pet in a wagon and walked miles to get his dog help. This showed me the dedication this man had for his pet."

Renee has a dog named Avery.

She wishes more people knew how passionate the homeless population is and that they will go above and beyond for their pets!

When asked to describe Feeding Pets of the Homeless in three words, she responded, "compassionate, dedicated and resilient."

Financial Assistance for Pet & Guardian Healthcare Services
by Devin Morrissey

As many as 25% of homeless individuals in the U.S. have a pet, but it can sometimes be difficult for those struggling with finances or homelessness to pay for the care their dog or cat needs.

That has never been more true than during the COVID-19 pandemic. Pet banks still need food, people will still get sick, and animals will need care, too. Now, more than ever, it is important to lend a helping hand as much as possible. If you’ve ever been concerned about the general health of the homeless with pets, now is the time to make a difference.
