Greetins!

This is the email we sent to our supporters a couple of days ago to ask them to testify in person or virtually on this topic. If you have the energy to participate, I invite you to. This is a big moment in our fight to ban gas-powered leaf blowers. It should also include every other gas-powered tool and it should take place much sooner, IMHO with no carve-outs (looking at you, Parks Department). But even as is it's a step forward. That's some of what I'll be testifying to tomorrow.

Thanks for considering and for listening to me rail against these stupid devices for the past 7 years. Here's:

  • To our health.
  • To our ability to breathe fresh air.
  • For the rights of workers not to have to carry devices on their backs which shorten their lives.
  • For the rights of children to not have to breathe in the dust these things kick up.
  • The same for bikers.
  • The same for elders.
  • The same for insects.
  • For the same for everyone!
  • For pets.
  • For less unnecessary noise
  • To protect our rapidly heating planet and allow all species to continue to live here.

Here's to our government working to protect us from stupid and harmful things. May they listen to the people and not let our Parks Department stall this sensical effort to make our community healthier.

Sincerely,

Albert
Happy March!

This is a final reminder about the March 6th City Council meeting. We'd love you to attend if you can.

On that date, the Council will discuss a proposed gas leaf blower ordinance in a 90-minute meeting from 2:00 to 3:30 pm. While the actual vote will take place at a “second reading” - typically a week or two later – this is another chance to rally in support of the ordinance.

We’re expecting a joyful crowd of supporters at this meeting, with everyone wearing a blue top. Any shirt, sweater, or jacket in some shade of blue will work. Please come join us!

  • When: Wednesday, March 6th, 2:00-3:30 pm.
  • Where: 2nd floor of the “1900 Building,” 1900 SW 4th Ave (on PSU’s campus next to the engineering building) - not City Hall. Directions and parking information are available at https://www.portland.gov/council-clerk/1900-building.

You are also invited to join us after the meeting at a venue within walking distance for a celebratory toast.

If you have already submitted written testimony, thank you! If not, directions are here. Feel free to send a repeat of any earlier message you’ve sent or send something fresh. This link provides directions to sign up for in-person or virtual testimony.

Quiet Clean PDX is grateful for your support. We applaud the city and county for their partnership in developing this policy and its critical ancillaries: enforcement, public education, and an incentives program, and hope it serves as a model for other cities in Oregon and across the country.
