FAFP Continues Efforts to Influence FL Loan Forgiveness Opportunities
Loan forgiveness form on a wooden table.
As noted in FAFP communications since March 2022, the Florida legislature appropriated $6 million for physician and other healthcare provider loan forgiveness from which qualifying FAFP members might be eligible to receive $20,000 to pay down their medical school debt. The Florida Reimbursement Assistance for Medical Education Program (FRAME) provides all of the details to date from the Florida Department of Health (FL-DoH). The FAFP and our consultants have been working closely with the FMA and the FL-DoH staff to ensure the program's eligibility requirements are equitable and allow for as many family physicians who serve in underserved areas throughout Florida to qualify for the funding. It is the FAFP's understanding the application process will prospectively be initiated around February 1, 2023, and remain open for approximately 60 days so that payments can be distributed prior to the end of 2023 legislative session on May 5.
