Fun with Making a Collage
If you are Spring Cleaning, and find a pile of old magazines, do not recycle them just yet! You can breathe new life into old magazines with collage. Flex your creativity muscles by designing a collage to suit your interests. Collage is a productive way to pass the time and it leaves you with a frame worthy final product. Creating collage with kids is a family friendly activity that promotes togetherness, language development, and fine motor skills.

Tongue Twisters
Tongue Twisters are a sequence of words, often using alliteration, that are tricky to say quickly and correctly! For example, "she sells seashells by the seashore."

Tongue twisters are fun way to play with language while developing skills. The brain must communicate and coordinate with the muscles used for speech which can improve articulation and pronunciation. Also, tongue twisters improve fluency through repetition and practice. They are a good warm up exercise before giving a speech or presentation.

Family Literacy Calendar Website
DayByDayNY is a website for young children and their families full of resources to promote language and learning at home. Each day on the “Family Literacy Calendar,” you’ll find a new song, story, video, and activity to go along with the monthly theme. May is all about animals- listen to the silly story There’s an Alligator Under My Bed , sing 5 Little Squirrels , make fingerprint butterflies, and more!

Alphabet Detective
I spy, with my little eye, something that starts with the letter A! See if you can find something that starts with each letter of the alphabet. Then, draw or write it in the box. This is a great way to practice understanding and writing vocabulary words. Can you fill all 26 boxes?

Staff Picks - Violin Music for Relaxation
Sam, from the Literacy Department, recommends Relaxing Violin Music.

She says “I recommend this title to anyone who likes listening to relaxing music! I personally like listening to relaxing music while I'm working or when I need some time to relax and focus throughout day. This music can help anyone get through stressful days, especially since we're experiencing tough times. Music is a method to uplift and bring peace of mind to anyone.”
