It’s DAF DAY!

There’s one thing we know for sure: we are powerful when we stand together. That’s why the Humane Society of Sonoma County is proud to take part in DAF Day—a national celebration of generosity and impact.

What’s a DAF?

A DAF, or Donor-Advised Fund, is a special charitable giving account that makes it easier to give—and to give more. It’s a simple, tax-advantaged way to make your generosity go even further.

Why DAF Day matters

Each year, 37% of Donor-Advised Funds go unused. That’s millions of dollars waiting to make a difference. By recommending a grant from your DAF, you can put those funds to work right now—helping pets and their people through our life-saving programs.

Your impact

When you designate your DAF gift to the Humane Society of Sonoma County, you’re doing more than donating—you’re giving animals safety, care, and the chance to find loving homes. Your support fuels our mission to save lives and enhance the well-being of pets and their people through kindness, innovation, and leadership.

This DAF Day, show what your DAF can do!

You have the power to make an immediate impact.

These smart giving tools from our new partner, FreeWill, ensure we can keep providing dedicated medical care, behavioral training, and affordable community vet services to the animals who need us most.

Use Freewill to easily make a one-time gift from your donor-advised fund!

(We recommend making your DAF gift by December 11th

to ensure your gift is processed before the end of the year.)

Create a lasting legacy of compassion

For those of us who love animals, what more meaningful legacy could we leave than a gift that ensures compassionate care for animals in need?

Planned gifts to the Humane Society of Sonoma County—such as a bequest in your will or trust—help secure the future of our donor-supported safe haven for animals.

Every gift, large or small, makes a lasting difference. And you have a wide range of options, many of which offer significant tax benefits while ensuring your love for animals lives on for generations.

Gift of Stock

With a transfer of appreciated stock to HSSC, you receive a charitable deduction based on market price and avoid capital gains tax.

Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)

If you are 70 ½ or older, you can transfer money from your traditional IRA or Roth IRA directly to HSSC. Those funds will not be added to your adjusted gross income on your taxes and can count toward your IRA’s required minimum distribution (RMD).

Bequest

A designated gift in your will or living trust is perhaps the simplest form of planned giving and the vehicle most commonly used.

Life Insurance

Donating an existing life insurance policy can offer you a charitable income tax deduction.

Revocable Living Trust

A revocable living trust is an estate planning tool that can be used to distribute your possessions to people and organizations when you pass away.

Real Estate Gift

You may irrevocably transfer the ownership of a home or farm to the Humane Society of Sonoma County, retain the right to occupy the premises for the rest of your life and receive an immediate charitable tax deduction.

Thank you for your compassion, your generosity, and for standing with us to make the world a kinder place for animals

and the people who love them!

With endless tail wags and purrs,

Thank You! 🐾
