The "Welcome Home, Pastor Wal" event was held on July 16 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna from 6:30-8PM. Pastor Wal is originally from South Sudan. He went through candidacy in the Southeastern Minnesota Synod; he now serves in South Sudan as an ELCA Missionary.
Pastor Wal shared photos and reflections on ministry and life in South Sudan during the gathering. He spoke of the 25 congregations with whom he ministers. He also described a special Christmas Day service on December 25, 2018 that was attended by over 2000 people and included 92 baptisms! Pastor Wal in many ways serves as a one-person synod office for the entire region providing pastoral care, training for new evangelists and worship leadership. We give deep thanks for Pastor Wal's ministry!
During this special "Welcome Home Wal" event, we also raised the funds to allow him to expand ministry in Gambela, Ethiopia and the surrounding region. To those who were able to attend: thank you for your participation and generosity!
