A Black Brown Coalition!
By Vincent L. Hall

For as long as I have been Black and good-looking (my whole life), there has always been talk about a Black/Brown coalition. These days, it seems like urban American folklore, but it ain’t so far-fetched when you come from where I come from. Michael Cantu, otherwise known by his brand name, Michael “Hollywood” Hernandez lost his final skirmish with cancer the other day. His life is replete with evidence that Blacks and Browns, from the ghettos to the barrios; live, love, eat and internalize a lot alike. Both of our cultures have been taught as minorities to make a dollar outta 15 pesos!

THE LAST WORD
Maladjusted Madness of Dr. King
By Dr. Julianne Malveaux

From the third Monday of January, the federal holiday commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, through the end of February, Black History Month, Dr. King will be quoted, lionized, referenced and deified by the kleptomaniacs who sample Dr. King as blatantly as hip-hop artists sample classic Motown. He will be taken out of context, a moral giant whose words are often distorted by the moral midgets who can only quote one or two lines from his “I Have A Dream” speech.

‘Lesson learned’: This year, Dallas residents get ready for winter storm
The hardships people went through during the February 2021 winter storm prompted more preparation for this week’s wintry weather.

The warning that a winter storm will hit North Texas starting Wednesday night sent Dallas residents into action. They wanted to be prepared for freezing rain, sleet and snow to avoid what they faced last year. Many who faced difficulties when they lost power, water or food during the winter storm in February 2021 said that was enough of a lesson to want to have a contingency plan this year.

The Path

As we walk through life's journey, we leave footprints. Some just show where we are going. Others redirect us when we get lost. Still others remain to guide those we leave behind. I see your footprints.
Will you/they see mine?
