We are excited to announce we have a new teacher, Candace Stevens, who just relocated from Philadelphia. Along with being a yoga teacher, Candace has a Masters Degree in Clinical & Counseling Psychology and is a practicing counselor. She bridges the two worlds together, using yoga in her therapy sessions.

Her passions are working with anxiety, depression, trauma, and PTSD to name a few. She also has studied and incorporates free flowing movement and sound therapy into her classes. We are so happy to have her on the Team!
Come join us this 4th of July as Candace will be leading a "pop up" flow yoga class with a very special purpose.

Our Fourth of July class is donation only with half the proceeds going directly to Elisha, a very special 10 year old boy with some unique life experiences who has been working with Stephen Winters for 3 months.

Elisha has never been able to breath on his own and relies on oxygen
tanks to live. With help from a yoga pranayama practice,
his breath has increased from not being able to blow out a candle
to taking 7-second inhalations and exhalations.

The improvement has been so impressive that Elisha's
pulmonary specialist from Stanford wrote a prescription for
yoga classes twice a week. This prescription means that insurance
will help pay for the classes, but we want to give Elisha a gift that would
help this 10 year old boy tremendously.

The hope of all the breathing practices is to get Elisha off oxygen so he can have a surgery he needs!

We invite you to join the class, meet Candace, leave a donation and help get Elisha independent from his oxygen tanks.

Yoga for Anxiety & Depression
with Katherine Winters
3 Part Series

July 5, 2018 - 7:15-8:30 PM

July 12, 2018 - 7:15-8:30 PM

July 19, 2018 - 7:15-8:30 PM
In this 3-part series, each class will build on the previous one. If you can only make one, you will still get valuable tools to help you navigate the symptoms of anxiety and depression but all three sessions provide a foundation for growth and relief.

Things we will be covering in this class:

1 - Learning about the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system and how they affect you.

2 - Breathing to help reduce anxiety.

3 - Long term depression and anxiety can be reduced or even relieved through specific poses. We will go over those specific poses and practice them.

4 - We will learn to move safety between, "flow" poses and restorative poses and the benefits of each.

This class is designed to be supportive and nurturing. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact us directly at 661-374-8693.

1-Why did you start yoga?
I began yoga to try another way to get fit, a way I hoped would not be too difficult on my out of shape body. It had been a very long time since I exercised. I was taking classes at a ladies gym and there met Carol. She is the person who recommended 'Restorative Yoga' and specifically Samsara. Many thanks to Carol.
2-What do you get out of the practice?
Through my practice at Samsara, I am learning I'm capable of much more than I believed. I am strong and with expert instruction and heartfelt encouragement, getting stronger and learning more in every session I attend.
3- How does your practice help off the mat?
Away from the studio I'm learning to practice, not only traditional yoga poses, but restorative moves, stretching and breathing, that help in everyday circumstances. I'm working on giving myself the time and effort I give to everyone else.
4- Any suggestions for new practitioners?
Be patient with yourself. None of us are perfect. Yoga poses and positions can be modified to work best for you, and instruction with a supportive attitude is available to help YOU be the best in YOUR body.
5-Favorite poses?
I really enjoy Forward Folds ( I like to let everything go. How often do you get to that?),and of course Shavasana, the most relaxed I ever feel. As I grow in my practice, I enjoy the strength and alignment I feel in Warrior poses. I am blessed to have experienced many of the classes, workshops, and services available at Samsara: Restorative, Flow, Chair, Massage, Private Instruction , Sound Bath, and Personal Workshops.
Thank you so much Katherine and Stephen.
Thank you Linda, Meladi, Ashley, Tiffany, Yani and Barbara.”
