The holidays are upon us, and St. Joseph has some great opportunities for family and friends to get into the spirit of the season. There are several holiday themed performance arts coming up the month of December.

A full lineup of great entertainment brings holiday cheer on Saturday, December 12 at the Paradox Theater. Shows at 2:30 pm and 7:30 pm or come to both as each show will be slightly different. Featuring performances by the Voices of America chorus, local barbershop quartet favorites BassLine and Old Standards, along with gospel quartet Spirit Revival. In addition, Liz Goller and Jaylene Scott will be joining this talented lineup on the evening show.Tickets are available on-line at www.vchorus.com or from Voices of America chorus members, or at the Allied Arts Council office.

Set in late 1941, I'll Be Home for Christmas is a musical about family and hope in the golden days of radio. As the family listens to the broadcast, you will experience an explosion of original and familiar Christmas music including swing, lush ballads, and big band. Come home for this Broadway-style musical filled with dance, music and special appearances from the New Generation Singers. Missouri Theater, 7:30pm Friday & Saturday, 2pm Sunday

It is December 1936 and William Gillette, admired the world over for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes, has invited his fellow cast members to his castle for the weekend. But when one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. The danger and hilarity are non-stop in this glittering whodunit set during the Christmas holidays.

Throughout the month, a must see is Holiday Park and the South Pole all decked out for the holidays!

The largest annual holiday lights display in Northwest Missouri will once again take place at Krug Park at the northern end of St. Joseph's famed Parkway. The park will become "Holiday Park," 6-10 pm from Friday, November 27 through January 1, 2016 (including Christmas night). Started in 1981, today more than 100,000 visitors drive through each year to see the lavish display of lighted arches and trees, winter scenes and the park's lovely Italianate buildings breathtakingly outlined in lights. At the southern end of the Parkway, Hyde Park also will be dazzlingly lit for the holiday season. Admission will be free to both parks, though donations are accepted. 816-271-5500. stjoemo.info
