Rev. Don's Poetry Share

America

by Claude McCay

Although she feeds me bread of bitterness,

And sinks into my throat her tiger’s tooth,

Stealing my breath of life, I will confess

I love this cultured hell that tests my youth.

Her vigor flows like tides into my blood,

Giving me strength erect against her hate,

Her bigness sweeps my being like a flood.

Yet, as a rebel fronts a king in state,

I stand within her walls with not a shred

Of terror, malice, not a word of jeer.

Darkly I gaze into the days ahead,

And see her might and granite wonders there,

Beneath the touch of Time’s unerring hand,

Like priceless treasures sinking in the sand.

Membership Milestones

On Sunday, April 6th, we hosted another successful, and delicious, Communion Breakfast and honored our members with 50+ years of Membership. These pillars of our Church Family were recognized during service and celebrated with a cake following breakfast.

Thank you to all who helped us celebrate the day and to our wonderful Kitchen Volunteers who worked so hard to make a great meal!

A very heartfelt Thank You to our wonderful 50+ Year honorees!

EASTER COLLECTION

This year, once again, the Mission Social Action Committee will collect items for Easter for our Covenant To Care Social Worker to distribute to the children under her care.

We are looking for donations of coloring books, crayons to accompany each book (or colored Pencils), and various activity book, crosswords, word search, suduko, etc. Ashley’s case load has approximately 20 children, and we will update with approximate ages when we get that information.

There will be a collection bin in the Narthex through Sunday, April 13 (Palm Sunday)

Thank you for your prayerful donations to these children.

Your Community Care, Mission Outreach Team,

Lynnette, Ruthe, Holly, Robin, Ellen and Gina.

EASTER FOOD DRIVE

With food insecurity on the rise, please consider supporting our mission to combat hunger by donating canned and non-perishable food items. A collection box for the Blessing Box and a basket for the Plainville Community Food Pantry are out in the Narthex to receive your donations through the Easter Holiday.

Spring Clothing Drive

Throughout Lent, we will be collecting donations of usable and wearable clothing, shoes, belts, backpacks, gloves, handbags, hats, stuffed animals, and toys. Please make sure all items are bagged.

Your donations can be left in the collection bins between now and April 18th or dropped off on April 19th from 9am - 2pm. Contact the church office if you need to arrange an alternative drop-off.

Give your old clothes a second chance and support the Save Our Steeple Fund with your donations!

You are invited to participate in a

Magazine Swap!

Donate your own recently published magazines (3 months old or less preferred) or pick-up donated magazines in the designated donation box in Kelsey Hall during coffee hour after services. There is no obligation to donate in order to retrieve magazines.

The Magazine Swap is a project of the God Care Team designed to respond to our call to care for the planet.
