“Hope” is the thing with feathers -

That perches in the soul -

And sings the tune without the words -

And never stops - at all -

And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -

And sore must be the storm -

That could abash the little Bird

That kept so many warm -

I’ve heard it in the chillest land -

And on the strangest Sea -

Yet - never - in Extremity,

It asked a crumb - of me.

Backpack Collection

We will once again be collecting backpacks and supplies for children in need over the summer months.

There is a collection bin in the narthex, and the Community Care Team asks all of us to put this on our radar as the sales on back-to-school supplies begin. Those of you with school age children might want to involve them as you make choices. We expect the need to collect for about 20 children. More information to follow as it becomes available.

This collection will conclude August 17th. Thank you.

As of July 31^st, The Congregational Church of Plainville, UCC’s historic building and steeple will have defined Plainville’s skyline for 175 years!

To commemorate the 175th Anniversary of the church building, we will be inviting the local community to join us for several events we will be hosting the first weekend of September.

“Many Hands Make Light Work”

In order to make our Historic Celebratory Weekend a great success we need all the help we can get. We will have many opportunities to volunteer between now and September. Please keep an eye out for sign-up sheets and announcements. For now, here are a few very important and time sensitive volunteering opportunities to prayerfully consider.

Advertising Team

In honor of our celebration, we are planning to publish a commemorative program book that includes interesting information from our church's history as well as advertisements from local businesses. We are looking for a team of volunteers to approach local businesses to ask if they would like to purchase Advertising Space in our commemorative program. An introductory letter and order form will be provided to hand out to the businesses you approach. We also have a list of suggested businesses to talk to if you are looking for ideas. Ads are due to the office by August 1^st, so the ideal time to approach businesses will be early in the month of July. If you are interested in being a part of this very important team, please either sign up on the sheets in Kelsey Hall or contact the office.

Celebration Sponsorship

Another highlight of our commemorative program will be the listing of Celebration Sponsors. We are looking for individuals and families who would like to be a part of the celebration by purchasing a Celebration Sponsorship. Celebration Sponsors will have their names listed in the program and their donation helps to offset the costs of our celebratory weekend. This will allow us to make a larger investment to the Save Our Steeple Fund as all proceeds from the weekend will go to the Fund. Please complete a Sponsorship form and return it to the office by August 1^st. Forms are available in Kelsey Hall and the office. You can also download a form HERE.

Canopy Tents

Our Concert & Ice Cream Social on September 7^th will be on the front lawn. We are looking for any members who have pop-up canopy tents that they can let us borrow and help set up for the event. If you have one available, please either sign up on the sheet in Kelsey Hall or let the office know.
