Why Your Decisions TODAY
will affect Your Year Ahead

A client of mine emailed me the other day, and asked me this:  "Can you tell me why is this so hard? I really admire people like you who make a commitment, make a decision, focus on their goal, and stay on track until they reach their target. I don’t know what it’s going to take for me to reach that level of commitment."

I emailed back and said: My number one commitment is to my clients such as you. Let me tell you that making decisions, including that of weight-loss, is something you have to work on every day, not one big decision you make January 1st of every year. Even now, you made a decision to open your email and read this.

Make your decisions understanding that it’s not going to be easy. The more you say to your brain: "No, I can't have it" or “You can’t have that”, the more you will crave it, want it, obsess over it, and eventually find ways to get it. Don't set yourself up for failure. Make the first decision to remember that you are human. Second, forgive yourself for not sticking to past decisions. I also want you to know that it WILL get easier. The more you practice and stay true to your decisions, the easier it gets. You will soon see and appreciate the results.

Now that you are free, move on, and try again every day.

What decisions have you made for 2017?

"I've been thinking for years to use a personal trainer and Sima was the first one that actually had something that got my attention. Sima is down to earth, energetic and highly motivating trainer and her approach for life is very inspiring. Since I met Sima she improved my self-motivation, enriched my knowledge of nutrition and helped me get the body I wanted, lean and strong. Sima is also very aware of my progress and will know how to modify the routines accordingly. I'm happy and proud of making the right decision. Thank you Sima.

Looking for a healthier grain to replace rice in the new year? Try Israeli couscous, aka pearl couscous, is a small whole grain made from semolina or wheat flour. This recipe is my vegetarian and diabetic friendly Israeli coucous.

Serves: 4
Prep Time:
 10 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

• 1 tablespoon olive oil

• 1/2 cup chopped shallots

• 1 1/2 cups Israeli couscous

• 1 cinnamon stick, or a pinch of cinnamon

• 1 bay leaf

• 1 3/4 cups vegetable broth

• Pinch of sea salt and black pepper

• 1/4 tablespoons freshly chopped parsley

• 1/4 cup pine nuts, lightly toasted
• zest of 1/2 lemon

• 1/4 cup dried cranberries ( optional)

Optional add ons:
• Cherry tomatoes
• Diced avocado
• Black beans
• Diced bell pepper
• Chopped scallions (green onion)

1. Add olive oil to a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the shallots and sauté until golden
brown. Add couscous, cinnamon stick, and bay leaf, and keep stirring until the couscous is
golden brown. About 2-4 minutes
2. Add the broth, sea salt, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, and cover and simmer, until
the liquid is absorbed and the couscous is soft. About 10 minutes
3. Remove the pan from the heat, and add in parsley, pine nuts, lemon zest, and dried cranberries.
Can be served hot or cold, and will stay fresh in your fridge for up to 2 days.
