MARCH 2023 — ISSUE 29
In our first-ever community Wish Book, you will find a collection of wishes from 50 nonprofits in Summit and Medina counties – and you can help make them a reality! Your gift – of any size – will be combined with gifts from others in the community to help fulfill desires that have been on these nonprofits’ wish lists for years but have often stayed out of reach due to other urgent needs. It doesn’t matter whether you have $15 or $5,000 to give – every dollar helps!
Akron Community Foundation’s board announced quarterly grants totaling $3.8 million and approved nearly $700,000 in competitive education grants chosen by the foundation’s Community Investment Committee. Among the nonprofits funded this quarter is Child Guidance & Family Solutions, which was awarded $81,000 for its Toddlers and Preschoolers Succeeding (TAPS) Program to provide training and on-site support for teachers, students and families to help nurture desired classroom behaviors in preschool-aged children.
Akron Community Foundation recently welcomed 13 new charitable funds to our growing family, including four new designated funds that will support a variety of nonprofits throughout the community. One designated fund, the St. Mary Urban Education Arts, Drama and Music Fund, will support quality arts, drama and music education for students at St. Mary School in Akron. View the full list of new funds online.
With an initial donation of $300, you can establish a donor-advised starter fund and build it up to the $5,000 required minimum over a three-year period. It's never been easier to streamline your charitable giving so that you'll be able to financially support your favorite causes far into the future.

Download the donor-advised fund starter guide or contact Margaret Medzie or Laura Lederer to discover whether this giving option is right for you.
A new affiliate fund has been established to support civic initiatives throughout the City of Green. The Green Community Fund was officially announced to the public during January's State of the City Address by Mayor Gerard Neugebauer, who shared the community’s vision for the fund.

"(The Green Community Fund) will serve our community for generations to come and will be managed by Green residents for the benefit of Green residents," Neugebauer said. "Much of what we have invested in over the years has a limited lifespan: The roads and school buildings we build today will someday need to be replaced, safety vehicles will eventually tire and grow obsolete – but this fund will grow and live on forever."
Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2023 On the Table Action Challenge! More information about the results of our survey and the announcement of nonprofits receiving funding will come later this spring. The resources from this year's challenge will remain online and we encourage you to utilize them to keep learning and growing.
The Institute for Emerging Philanthropists is an exclusive, biennial educational program designed to support, inspire and cultivate a developing group of donors. This seven-session program helps participants identify their personal philanthropic goals and develop plans for a lifelong commitment to improving our community. The program culminates in a graduation ceremony where students announce the grants their class has awarded based on their training. If you are interested in joining the next class, apply online by April 15.
