Florida's Best 55+ Military Retirement Community
Happy New Year!

A note from John Robinson, GM/COO

Looking back on 2018, we had a great year. We accomplished a number of projects that improved our curb appeal. We did the landscaping and signage to both the Briggs and Masterson Gates. The new metal Indian River Colony Club signs and the Sylvester Palms look great. The rock wall by the south pumphouse, which was done in house by one of our Maintenance staff, and pavers at the north end of Colony Hall/ south side of the pool, and the At Ease Club all look very sharp.
Other projects included replacement of the pool canopies, tennis fence, and drainage pipes. We continue to do sidewalk and cart path repairs, which are almost entirely caused by tree roots, and we completed the bunker renovation this summer.
We signed a three-year contract with Green Leaf to do our landscaping. We also signed a five-year contract with Spectrum that included some high definition upgrades and internet service. We have found that the average savings for an IRCC member is around $60 per month.
In the coming months we will be cleaning up the North wall landscaping. We are also looking into better lighting in the community. We will be getting to the new street signs starting in January.
I hope everyone has a happy, healthy, and profitable New Year.

~John Robinson
Our Community - IRCC is an active Country Club community designed and built to accommodate our military men and women and give them the opportunity to relish in a lifestyle with which they were familiar.
As many of you may be aware, IRCC was built in 1988, the first community in Viera FL for Military Officers. Patriotism has always been a priority of life here in the community, which is reflected by the Gate Ceremonies, Military Balls and Golf Cart parades honoring those that served our country. Today, not only for those retired from a military career, but for all those that have served and those devoted to the traditions of the U.S. Military. Indian River Colony Club is, by far, the perfect choice in an active 55+ community for you to start the next chapter in your life.

Among our members you will discover new friends that have served in all branches of the military and private sector to share in fun, activities, hobbies, groups and abundant wildlife. You will find more choices of activities than you could have ever imagined.

As always, IRCC is a great place to retire; there truly is no better location and environment, especially if you desire a great private Country Club life with top notch amenities and service. The camaraderie and caring of this community is what makes us unique.
Come on a getaway and take a look at the best choice you can make.
Out with the old, in with the new; may you be happy the whole year through. Happy New Year!
IRCC Holidays are celebrated with parades, parties and lots of sharing.
A large group of IRCC residents gathered in their decorated golf carts to go around the community and nearby assisted living facilities to do their carrolling, share gifts and joy to those who can no longer get out. What a great community!
This lovely group of ladies handed out the ornaments, new and from years past, to decorate and donate at the IRCC Tree Lighting Ceremony
Spotlight on IRCC Resident, Bob Pataky by Carolyn Cain

Bob Pataky says he has had a lot of luck in his life, and maybe he has. But it takes more than luck to earn induction into your college hall of fame.
Born with natural ability, Bob knew by the time he was in high school he was – and wanted to be – an acrobat.
When you are in it as a sport, it becomes gymnastics, and Bob went to Springfield College in Massachusetts as a gymnast, became team captain, and earned championships in still rings.
After college, Bob served in the Army in Germany, 30 th Infantry, 3 rd Division, but following his service he returned to his sport when he took a job in Puerto Rico as Olympic coach and acted as president of their gymnastics association.
In 1972, he became president of U.S. Gymnastics Training Centers in Mt. Holyoke, Mass., which he continued through 1996 and which gave him the opportunity to help increase the number of high-level gymnasts in the U.S. It became the largest privately-owned training center in the U.S., housing 450 gymnasts and 80 coaches from around the world.
Bob and Nancy “retired” to DeLand in 1996, after which he spent 17 years as a volunteer track and field coach at DeLand High School. The couple moved to IRCC in 2017 and while Bob doesn’t do handstands anymore, he does weight lifting and shuffleboard.
It was while they were in DeLand that Bob learned in 2013 he was to be inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame. He says it’s something of which he is very proud. It recognizes a career during which he built on his own natural talent to support excellence in training of U.S. Gymnasts – the results of which he is justifiably proud.
Bob’s 70-year “add-on” career was gem cutting. So, if you ever bump into an extremely talkative, teaching, coaching, award-winning, gem-cutting acrobat, it’s probably Bob!
