Make a Public Comment on the Allston Multimodal Project!
by October 30th

MassDOT's Allston Multimodal Project is a once-in-a-century opportunity to increase regional transit, remove the impractical and unjust highway viaduct, and improve conditions of the Charles River's edge. But we need your voice to make this project the best it can be for our communities, our environment, and the Charles River!

This fall, MassDOT Secretary Pollack will select a "preferred alternative" design for the narrow "throat" section of the project before continuing the NEPA permitting process. Please join us in urging MassDOT to select the "Modified All-At-Grade" design, which will work in tandem with the Riverfront Restoration Strategies developed by CRC board member Gautam Sundaram of Perkins&Will and urban designers Kishore Varanasi and Devanshi Purohit of cbt.

Subject: Comments on the Allston Multimodal Project

Dear MassDOT,

Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the Allston Multimodal Project, and for your recent inclusion of the Modified All-At-Grade design option, backed by the City of Boston. I urge you to select this design as the "preferred alternative" for the "throat" section because it will:
  1. reconnect Allston neighborhoods with the Charles River and parks by removing the highway viaduct and allowing for a safe bike and pedestrian overpass at Agganis Way
  2. work in tandem with riverfront restoration strategies developed by urban designers from Perkins&Will and cbt
  3. improve the safety of I-90 and reduce noise pollution to surrounding areas by rebuilding a straighter, flatter highway
  4. enable future transit on Grand Junction, a critical opportunity to expand transit and reduce transportation emissions in order to meet Massachusetts' stated climate goals

Additionally, I ask that MassDOT establish an advisory process for the entire duration of the project that centers individuals from the environmental justice population and communities most directly impacted by the project, as well as representation from collaborating state and local agencies, environmental and transportation advocates, and commuters along the I-90/Worcester Line corridor.

[Add personal reasons why you care about this project or why it affects you]

Sincerely,
