DUNS Number to be Phased Out of Government Contracting
Lenora Leasure
PTAC Program Manager

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced March 18, 2019, an award to Ernst and Young LLP (EY) for entity validation services , ending the 20+ year use of the Data Universal Numbering System, or DUNS number. The award with a one-year base and four option years, allows the GSA the opportunity to re-engineer the system. The federal government will no longer be locked in to a private company’s proprietary identifier.

The new entity validation will be called the System for Award Management Managed Identifier, or SAMMI, number. Although system functionality details are still being worked out by an inter-agency working group, the DUNS number will be phased out over the upcoming months.

The JARI PTAC will stay abreast of the process, informing our clients of the status. Please contact us with any questions at (814) 254-4022 or (814) 254-4023 or via email at jariptac@jari.com .
