March 2025

The Spring Cleaning Craft Exchange returns once again. At Defiance the exchange will be a 5-day (Tuesday - Saturday) event. Stop in anytime March 18-22 during open library hours at our Defiance location and find new craft supplies and drop off your old ones in the MakerSpace. Please only bring clean, usable supplies. Anything leftover after the event will be considered donations unless other arrangements have been made.

At Sherwood the craft exchange will take place March 4th from 1-7 pm. Hicksville's craft exchange event will be April 14th from 1-7pm.

MakerSpace Spotlight

Badge A Matic II

Button Maker

The Badge a Matic is a button press that makes badge-style button making easy. This machine is only able to make 2.25-inch buttons. Buttons cost .50 cents per button to help cover the cost of the supplies. Choose from a variety of backing types.

  • Pin Back
  • Bulldog Clip
  • Mirror
  • Magnet
  • Keychain
  • Spinner
  • Adhesive
  • Plain

Design your button on precut circles or design digitally with a computer template the MakerSpace has available (printing is an additional fee). Photos can be scanned and transferred digitally to use for buttons. Paper put into buttons can only be copy paper weight or less, as heavier paper doesn't fold over the edges in the press. Buttons have a clear plastic cover to protect the design. Occasionally a button will not turn out due to variance in manufacturing. If this happens there will be no charge for the failed button and we will try again.

Contact the MakerSpace for 1-on-1 help and questions about our button maker. The Badge A Matic is available to use on a first come first serve basis during open make times or by appointment. Button backing type availability depends on our supply, so please let us know if you plan on making a large amount and we can see about getting supplies in stock.

New Art in Public Domain

DP346474 image

At the beginning of the year new art entered into the public domain, which means it can be used without violating copyright. This year artwork from artists like Frida Kahlo and Henry Matisse entered the public domain along with books and movies published in 1927. Keep in mind that these public domain rules can differ between countries and extensions can sometimes be in place, so double check the copyright status.

A great resource for finding public domain art is the Public Domain Image Archive by the Public Domain Review. You can search by time period, artist, theme, or other tags. Images can be downloaded from the archive or you can visit the link of the museum or organization that provides that resource.

If you are looking for resources that you can use copyright-free, check museums and organizations that are related to what you are looking for. A couple of resources we have previously mentioned in a MakerSpace Moment are The Met or NASA. You can use images and media from these databases to create your own masterpieces.

Happy Making!
