November 2025

We made it though all our Halloween activities, and you may have seen a few things made in the MakerSpace at the haunted library and Halloween Parade. Now we are getting ready to host Def-Com X, the library's own comic con. The MakerSpace will have supplies to help do quick fixes for cosplays.

Also this month is macramé book hangers, happening Nov 17th (Sherwood) & 18th (Defiance). Check out all the maker classes happening at all our locations and departments.

MakerSpace Spotlight

Cubiio Laser Etcher

Take drawn images or black and white images and etch them on surfaces. The Cubiio is a small laser etcher that can cut through thin materials like paper or etch on thicker surfaces. Pictured here is a student's drawing etched on a piece of wood as a part of the library's partnership with Defiance Elementary School. 2nd graders at DES get to learn about the laser and see it in action, and then get back one of their drawings etched later on. Each etching takes 15 to 30 minutes, depending on how intricate, so it takes a while to get through all of the drawings. Our etcher is also limited in size, only being able to do 10 cm by 10 cm in size. More detailed settings can be used as well, which creates a greyscale image over a longer time period.

Contact the MakerSpace for 1-on-1 help and questions about our laser etcher. The etcher is available to use on a first-come, first-served basis during open make times or by appointment.
