Who Made That?!

Five years ago, Michael Borders returned to his home state of Georgia, after a 20-year stint as a designer in NYC. Michael had only known Forsyth as a great midway point to stop for gas and snacks on trips to Atlanta and that was about it.

That changed when he made plans to pack up his life and move south and took the bold step of opening Iron Eagle Design and Fabrication Studio.

Forsyth presented itself as the ideal location. Michael said, Forsyth welcomed him in with its friendly unique charm and gracious beauty.

"When I got here and started exploring the town it was incredible. The first time I stepped in the square and saw the courthouse- it took my breath away. It was like I was on the set of Forrest Gump- it just seemed too perfect to be a real town."

Iron Eagle specializes in commercial and residential signs, fireplace grates, custom grills and smokers, decorative gates and many other customized projects. From design to fabrication to installation Michael is the creative power behind every step of the process- ensuring that the final product will be top quality and long lasting.

Michael’s customers are nationwide, but he takes special pride in his local projects that have allowed him to make his mark in his community.

Under the Grapes

Local musician, Andy Silver, says he loves playing under the grapes at The Den.

"It’s always a blast playing at The Den- the energy of the audience, the warmth of the place, the great welcome of the visionary owners, Spring and Chad Tyler, its magic every time."

The grape lights, a lucky thrift find, are just one of the fun funky elements that give The Den it’s cool inviting vibe. From the retro fringed lampshades to the crocheted Afghans, inviting you to get cozy and stay awhile, every detail of The Den’s decor is designed to put you at ease and bring people together. Spring and Chad have created "A cozy, inviting place that we can all share together. From Our Den to Yours. Make yourself at home."

Open Wednesday-Saturday there is always a good reason to meet up at The Den. Wednesdays are Lampshade Jam Sessions- all are welcome to join in the open-ended music making or just enjoy watching the fun. Thursdays test your memory skills with Name the Artist style trivia hosted by Gator of Knucklehead Studios. Fridays and Saturdays bring an exciting array of live music Under the Grapes

The History is in the Details

The remains of an ornate cast metal parapet on the front of 7 West Johnston Street is perhaps the oldest architectural feature on any business around the Courthouse Square in downtown Forsyth. Originally this parapet had a date board, shaped urns, a cornice, and filigree detail. A few of these features remain today to remind passersby of the once prosperous hardware business of Bramblett and Brother and later Bramblett and Son.

Augustus Wildman Bramblett and his brother Alfred, tinsmiths who had received their training in ante bellum Gwinnett County, came to Forsyth in 1870. Three years later they constructed the business at 7 West Johnston with its metal parapet for their tinsmith business, emblazoning its date board with the year 1873. The tinsmith business in time merged into a more general hardware business and eventually a mortuary business, as hardware stores then frequently supplied coffins and other mortuary needs.

In 1946 A.W. Bramblett, son of Augustus Wildman Bramblett, sold the family business and the name was changed to Forsyth Hardware Company. Today it is the law office of Ham & Jenkins, and the Bramblett identity is lost, but their distinctive parapet remains.

What's New?

Forsyth Feed & Seed is Changing?

Forsyth Feed & Seed is a long-standing fixture in downtown Forsyth. It has inhabited its current space, going back 80+years. There is photographic evidence that it was a cotton warehouse in 1913, before it became a hub for animal feed and farm seeds. The new owner, Kevin Wimberly, bought the business from long-time owner and resident, David White. We asked Mr. Wimberly why this store and his answer was simple: "It’s a longstanding store with loyal customers and Mr. White has given it a reputation that we feel fits with our other locations." He also said he’s not planning on changing the name, even though his other stores are both under the Farmer’s Best Fertilizer brand. With Mr. Wimberly also came the new manager, Nicki Halstead, an eight-year veteran of the farm supply business who comes to us from Barnesville. They offer everything from gardening supplies, plants and seeds, to livestock and pet feed, to tack and other supplies. Forsyth Feed & Seed is an interesting place and worth a visit. You will be surprised by all you will find!

Looking for More Good Hair Days?

Wendie Ware brought her hair salon business, More Good Hair Days, to Forsyth four years ago, first occupying a place on Paul James Historical Blvd. Ms. Wendie has been doing hair for over 24 years. She welcomes a diverse clientele and is happy to report business has increased by 48% since her move to 51 W. Johnston St., across from Scoops and next to the Feed & Seed. Fun fact, her building was originally, in the early 1900s, a bank and it still has the vault!

Ms. Wendie invites you to stop in and see how she has made her new space all her own. We are lovin’ those bedazzled longhorns!

Scoops Levels Up With a New Arcade

Scoops has become a go to for the sweet life in Forsyth!

Owners, Brian and Christie Lambert started the ice cream and gourmet coffee shop renovated the old city hall at the corner of North Jackson and West Johnstons Streets. They have been dishing up ice cream, hosting birthday parties, and selling candies and handmade sweets to folks of all ages for nearly ten years now.

They recently upgraded their party room with the addition of an arcade. The arcade has games ranging from Golf to Galaga to Ms. Pac-Man, there’s something for everyone to enjoy! Ms. Christie loves the addition, and said, "It has positively impacted our business because it gives kids and adults something fun to do while they enjoy their sweet treats!" And we couldn’t agree more! Scoops is a great way to beat the heat of summer with family and friends.
