A Non-Profit Community Impact Program

Success Story

Learning isn't just for the classroom!

Our 3-year-olds on Best St. experienced a truly remarkable day when the Trash Truck visited, transforming learning about community helpers and environmental care into a thrilling, hands-on adventure! Their faces lit up with curiosity as they eagerly questioned the driver: "Where does the trash go?" "How does it pick it up?" The highlight? Seeing the truck in action and even pretending to be trash collectors! This wasn't just fun; it was a powerful lesson in teamwork, environmental responsibility, and the vital role of community helpers. The visit sparked meaningful conversations about recycling and caring for our planet, leaving a lasting impression and solidifying a day of pure, educational joy!

Community Connections

Our Board Certified Behavioral Analysts from our Bill Wagoner Autism Clinic, joined other professionals at NC-ABA, a conference that focuses on recent data in the filed of Behavioral Analysis. They were able to connect with other BCBAs across the state and learn valuable evidenced- based information that can help support our students.

Partners In Learning is thrilled to announce a significant donation from Hotwire Communications: 36 state-of-the-art Chromebooks, valued at over $7,200. This generous contribution will directly empower educators at Partners In Learning, ensuring they remain at the forefront of early care and education in North Carolina.

The Chromebooks, coupled with Hotwire's lightning-fast internet already provided to the organization, will serve as essential tools for professional development. Teachers will leverage these resources to access cutting-edge online training, participate in virtual workshops, and expand their knowledge base, ultimately enhancing the learning experience for their young students.

Joseph Cataldo (Commercial Account Manager) and Mike Hall (Senior Director of Sales for the Carolinas) of Hotwire, and Amy Vestal (Development Director) of Partners In Learning.

Catawba College therapeutic recreation students facilitate The Special Olympics Young Athletes program every week. This program supports children with diverse needs in building physical, social, and cognitive skills through play in an inclusive setting.

We are so thankful for Catawba College and the important investment they provide in early development!

PIL Professional Tip of the Month

Family Support Tip on Inclusion

March is disability awareness month. Below are tips from Cassie Karriker, Partners In Learning's Clinical Services Director, on ways you can be inclusive in the community.

If you are in a situation where your child may see a person with disabilities, and you are not sure how to guide them and teach them, we have some tips for you.

  • Model respectful and curious behavior. If your child has questions, answer them honestly and age-appropriately. Explain that everyone is different and that differences should be celebrated, not feared.
  • "Avoid staring or pointing." This can make the person feel uncomfortable and self-conscious.
  • "Use inclusive language." Instead of saying "the handicapped person," use person-first language like "person with a disability" or "individual who uses a wheelchair."
  • "Teach your child about different types of disabilities." This can help them understand that disabilities come in many forms and that everyone deserves respect.
  • "If your child has questions, answer them honestly and age-appropriately." Avoid making assumptions or giving overly simplistic explanations.
  • "Encourage your child to interact with people with disabilities." This can help break down stereotypes and build understanding.
