Hillel of Silicon Valley students enjoyed fusing the American celebration of Halloween with a Jewish twist into Challaween. Students prepared a variety of sweet and savory flavors of challah to serve at Friday's Shabbat dinner. Our kitchen was humming throughout the week as they also prepared special "Challaween" desserts to enjoy after our meal.

Sponsor a Shabbat Dinner
Shabbat is a highlight at Hillel each week. Students from our five campuses, recent alumni, and young adults from the community gather at Hillel to celebrate their Jewish connection and and enjoy a meal free of charge. We endeavor to keep all of Hillel’s programs free so as to alleviate any financial barriers to engaging with Jewish life and community.
We are grateful to the many community members who volunteer to cook Shabbat Dinners for the students almost every week. The students always appreciate a home cooked Shabbat meal and we are always looking for Shabbat cooks. Attendance at a typical Shabbat dinner is between 40-50 students.
If you, your Havurah, or synagogue group is interested, please contact our Assistant Director Mitch Reitman at mreitman@hillelsv.org for more information.

Palo Alto Volunteering Opportunity to Work with Kids!
Love children? The Terrific Twos program is for you! We are looking for 2-3 playroom volunteers to assist the Educator in providing a warm and nurturing play environment as children learn to separate from their parents, often for the first time. The class is limited to 10 children, with 3-4 adults in the room, including a lead Educator. The children are predominantly 2-years old, and they are learning to trust new adults in a playroom setting, while developing their budding independence and self-confidence.
Volunteers must be comfortable with providing gentle support during some crying in the first few sessions, as children adjust to the playroom environment. Two year olds are wise and curious and a whole lot of fun. No experience with children required, although a love for children is essential! Contact Miriam at
MiriamM@JFCS.org
for more information.
