When is the last time you moved? What emotions stand out to you when you recall those memories? Moving can be downright stressful: you may encounter logistical challenges, financial stresses, physical labour, emotional strain, stress, and anxiety.
When residents of the Sonshine Centre are ready to move out of the shelter and back into the community (where they will continue to receive support from Sonshine), Team Sonshine works together to make the move as comfortable as possible.
Sonshine's Intensive Case Manager meets with the women in the Sonshine Centre regularly to create a move-out plan tailored to the unique needs of each individual. These plans could entail the identification of affordable housing options, the creation of a plan to obtain furniture and other necessities, and the coordination of various supports.
Sonshine's Volunteer Coordinator works with teams of generous volunteer movers, such as the Rapid Response Team from RockPointe Church. These volunteers assist with the "muscle", moving boxes of belongings and lending their trucks and vans for the task of transport.
Ensuring the needs of every woman and child is met each step of the way is a team effort, and we couldn't do it without the support of our community partners and incredible volunteers. If you're interested in helping out as a volunteer mover, please reach out to us at volunteer@sonshine.ca.
