Changes to Construction Code in Avalon
In 2019 Avalon implemented significant changes to its ordinance regulating construction activity in the busy summer months.
In an ordinance amended January 8th; the following changes are to be implemented going forward.
Th e The amendments to the ordinance state prohibition on "any and all exterior work of any kind" on Saturdays during July and August. Landscape construction would be subject to the same limitations as other construction activity, but normal landscape maintenance is exempt. The changes also prohibit all demolition from July 1 through Labor Day; exception for approved emergency cases.
Construction information previously required to be displayed, must now be displayed so that it is "readable from the street".

Avalon Achieves Class 3 Flood Rating
AVALON achieves class 3 flood rating, 35% savings:
Avalon recently achieved a Class 3 rating in the Federal Emergency Management's Community Rating System based on its ongoing flood mitigation efforts. Avalon property owners will look forward to an estimated $1.6 million in cumulative flood insurance savings during 2020. Avalon, being one of only 13 municipalities in the nation, besides one of only two in New Jersey, to achieve a Class 3 rating.
Avalon Lions "Pay it Forward"
The Avalon Lions Club is usually handing out checks to a long list of Cape May County charities, but this month, the Lions were the recipients. The Burke Motor Group included the Lions in their giving back campaign called the Burke Promise. Burke raised over $16,000 by donating a portion of their car sales over a six month period to community organizations and the Avalon Lions received a generous share.

Girls 'Pick Up' Basketball in Avalon
Starting Thursday, January 16th from 7-8:30pm - Women's Pick Up Basketball is back for the 2020 season at Avalon Community Hall! The girls get together every Thursday; January through March. No pre-registration required; just come join the game; have fun and play ball! All ages and all skill level welcome.
