Making a Sterling Silver Pierced Pendant
Step by Step Demonstration
First, I create a design on a piece of tracing paper & cut out the pendant shape.
Next, I use rubber cement to adhere it onto a flat sheet of 22 gauge sterling silver.
Then I pierce the metal by center punching and drilling a hole into each of the negative spaces where I want to remove the SS creating a see through effect.
Cutting all of the edges inside and out took about 2 hours of sawing.
Next step is to use files and different sanding wheels to shape and smooth the pendant to bring out the detail.
After I fuss and get rid of the scratches on the metal, I put it in a dry polish tumbler over night which yields a mirror polish finish.
Here I have it paired with another charm I made.
These are only a few of the techniques I cover during the classes I enjoy teaching at The Creative Art Center.
