We're already almost halfway through the season and I hope you're making the most of it. WWA lost a friend and faithful volunteer in Marv Tibbitts last month and we are all reflecting on the short time we get to spend enjoying our favorite pastimes in this life and the people that go along with them. Marv's legacy will live on in WWA continuing our mission and we have some great updates for you on just how we're doing that in this newsletter.
Plus, you won't want to miss your chance to win the Franchi Momentum Gray Synthetic 6.5 Creedmore with Vortex Scope our Midland Wings Chapter is raffling off on the 12th. And check out the rest of our class A raffles here.
I hope you enjoy our November edition...

Making the Most of It
By Bruce Ross, Executive Director
| | | |
|
We’re a little less than halfway through the season. The marsh where I usually hunt hasn’t seen any sort of northerly wind for over two weeks. The birds are stale, and with air temps that mimicked June’s more than they did October’s, well, the shooting has been slow. But there are few places I’d rather be right now, and I’m trying to enjoy every moment.

In Memory of Marv
We are extremely saddened to report the loss of long-time WWA Baraboo River volunteer, Marv Tibbitts, who died at home October 19th. Marv, aged 62, had just retired and was looking forward to that retirement with his wife, Vickie, another well-recognized WWA volunteer. Marv had just returned from a memorable North Dakota hunting trip with WWA’s former Regional Director, Tom Seibert. Upon returning, the two (and several others) collaborated on a successful Hunter's Bash in Baraboo. Marv enjoyed those two things for only three days before a stroke suddenly took him. RIP, Marv, you will be missed. A lesson to all of us to enjoy this life while we have it.

Make Your IRA Work for You
If you’re 70 ½ or older, keep reading: whether you’re itemizing or claiming the standard deduction, you can direct up to $100,000 per year tax-free from your Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) to charities through Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs). (And $100,000 per spouse). If you’re 72 and older, QCDs can be used as part or all of your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). By reducing your IRA balance, a QCD may also reduce your taxable income in future years.
