Malachis’s Core Values

by Judy Greig, Board Member and Clothing Closet Team Lead

Last Wednesday afternoon around 1 pm, when Malachi’s was closed, two ladies stopped by with a donation for Malachi’s Mart. I was happy to receive it, but needed some help from Ray, another volunteer, because the donation was heavy. The ladies then asked for food. Unfortunately, we had distributed all our boxes.

However, Ray told them he would share some of his food with them and proceeded to do so. It was clear to me that we were all appreciative of the gifts we received.

From that one interaction, all of Malachi’s core values were demonstrated. As volunteers, we respect, have empathy, and are generous toward the clients as we walk in love in the sharing of food and making relationships. We did not provide for all their needs, but it was clear to me that we were all appreciative of the gifts we received.

It is great to know that Malachi's makes a difference to the clients by distributing: food, clothing, household items, personal hygiene items, books and toys.

July 4 Tomato Giveaway

We decided to highlight Malachi's by giving away tomato plants at the July Fourth Dunwoody Parade.

Volunteers, Carlos and Nancy, grew 400 tomato plants. They were organic, healthy, and ready for new homes by July. While we did not have 400 on the parade day we completely filled Ed’s truck bed with hundreds of plants.

Dunwoody parade watchers were crazy for them. In fact we could have given out a thousand easily. We hope they all thrived in their new homes.

From now on we may be known as the food bank who encourages growing your own produce!

Family Fun-Day

In July, we held our third annual Fun Day for our clients and their families! The event was filled with joy and laughter as children enjoyed the waterslides and bubbles under beautiful sunny skies.

We are incredibly grateful to our amazing volunteers, whose hard work and presence made this day possible. Thank you for helping us create unforgettable memories with our community!

Volunteer Appreciation Party

In April, we held our annual volunteer appreciation party at the pavilion, celebrating another year of tremendous support and loyalty from our volunteers!

Supporting the Atlanta Community Food Bank Hunger Walk

In March, we organized a team to participate in the Atlanta Community Food Bank Hunger Walk.

We raised an impressive $4000, which Malachi's Storehouse will be able to use as credit to purchase food from the ACFB. This contribution will significantly bolster our efforts to provide nourishment and sustenance to those in need.

Thank you to everyone who donated!

Summer Volunteers Graduating

For many people, the word "congratulations" is heard numerous times throughout their lives. At Malachi's, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to the exceptional and talented junior volunteers who have selflessly dedicated their time and efforts, rain or shine, to support our community.

This summer holds special significance as several of our remarkable juniors are graduating from high school and preparing to embark on their remarkable journey into the world. As they step into this vast world, we are certain that they will carry with them the values and dedication that they have shown as volunteers and positively impact the society at large.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the parents for raising and nurturing such outstanding individuals. Wherever their paths may lead them in the future, we, here at Malachi's, are confident that they will continue to be ambassadors of positive change, impacting their future communities for the better. -Michaella Major

Dunwoody Oktoberfest

On September 28, 2024 St. Patrick’s held the first Dunwoody Oktoberfest. All proceeds from the event went to the ministries of St. Patrick’s including Malachi’s Storehouse. Malachi's volunteers helped set-up and execute the event and also manned an information table. We educated the community on our mission and recruited new volunteers to help with our various food pickups. We look forward to being a part of this fantastic event next year.

Backpack Distribution

Malachi's would like to thank everyone for their support of our annual backpack distribution event. With your donations, and our partner For the Kid in All of Us, we were able to give approximately 500 backpacks, lightly filled with supplies, to the children of our clients.

Cheese!
