Welcome to the Malden Chamber of Commerce’s 130th Year!
Focus on: Personal Finance Businesses

Malden is fortunate to have many professionals who are expert in the personal finance field. Whether you need help with your taxes, advice with your investments, or information about loans, you have many options within the Malden Chamber of Commerce. Like most businesses, financial professionals have changed their way of operating because of the pandemic. And, like with other organizations, the devastating pandemic surprisingly introduced some positive changes to the way work is done.

Some of our members spoke of how they adapted their service delivery given the restrictions of the pandemic. Brian Boswell, Financial Planner with the Commonwealth Financial Group, noted that while “Malden and neighbor cities have been and continue to be m focus, moving the business to a virtual format has also allowed me to expand to support friends and family in other states. For example, one of my clients has a parent in Texas to whom she referred me, someone I never would have dreamed of working with before COVID. And, of course, I attend Malden Chamber networking events whenever possible!”

Echoing a positive note, Donna Denoncourt, Partner with Boston Light Financial and President of the Malden Chamber of Commerce, says client “meetings became virtual and clients grew to like them, including no traffic to get to meetings, or allowing for the ability to review and sign documents and sharing screens of information. Hosting virtual client events opened up for those from other states or from a distance could now participate in events with helpful financial information.”

The clients of these financial services firms also adapted their ways of interacting with their financial advisors. Michni Daley-Powell, Branch Manager of Members Plus Credit Union and member of the Board of Directors of the Malden Chamber of Commerce described that they “saw an increase in calls during the pandemic as members were utilizing our online and mobile banking platform…The pandemic though seen as in a negative light created many opportunities for our membership to utilize technology from the comfort of their homes as such it escalated the usage for MPCU.”

Barsha Gautam, Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager, Eastern Bank summed up the consumer response. “Customers are using more digital services than anything in the history. From making deposits to opening accounts and closing on loans, everything is happening digitally. However, as much as digital channel is booming customers are also reaching out to us more than ever…This pandemic has given us an opportunity to connect more with our clients.”

If you are looking for a tax, financial planning, or banking advisor, look no further than the Malden Chamber of Commerce. These professionals proved resilient, creative, and dedicated to serving their clients even in the face of a pandemic. Please consider engaging a Malden business as your advisor. Breton Tax Services, Ethan Sawyer Tax Services, The Tax Depot, The Commonwealth Financial Group, Boston Light Financial, Members Plus Credit Union, Malden Federal Credit Union, Brookline Bank, Century Bank, East Cambridge Savings Bank, Eastern Bank, StonehamBank, PNC and The Mossalam Agency.

Next month’s issue will feature those businesses who guide individuals and businesses in their financial decisions, including financial advisors and accountants.
