Thank you for 30 years
To Our Dockside Community,
To say the least, what a run. As an independent casual dining restaurant, we have served over 4,000 guests weekly for the past 30 years. No one could have predicted that we would have operated this long. We survived recessions and have managed to stay in business in the era of Covid. It’s said that all things come to an end, and that holds true for operating the Dockside concept in Malden. Countless hours and a lot of hard work converted Memory Lane into Dockside in the early 1990’s, not only a restaurant but a second family for many of our dedicated employees and guests.
It is a great feeling to have watched some of our team members meet their spouse while working here and go on to start families. Throughout the past two very challenging years, our restaurant team has shown up with purpose and resiliency. We certainly would not have made it this far if it were not for them. I am humbled by their commitment.
We have so enjoyed being part of the fabric of the Malden community. Starting with the leadership from Mayor Conway, then with Mayor Howard and presently with Mayor Christenson, the City of Malden and its residents have been great to us. We are extremely fortunate to have a remarkable working relationship with our landlords, Combined Properties. Without these people, we would not be here.
I am beyond grateful for you, our loyal guests and your support over the years. It is so nice to see some of you who would visit 20-25 years ago with your children, now stopping in with your grandkids. Thank you for making us a part of your family.
While this chapter may have come to a close, the community that we have built is special and we invite you to visit us down the road at our Dockside Wakefield location, 1099 Main Street. Next Sunday, March 20, 2022 will be the last day that we will operate Dockside at 229 Centre Street. We will be donating all remaining food to the local food shelters.
In the near future, we will switch gears and be operating the House of Smoke, serving the best barbeque around under the culinary and operational leadership of Carlos Magalhaes from Fuel America. Although we will be operating with a new menu and new concept, I can promise that we will still be very active in the local community under this new brand. Stay tuned for the many ways we will help raise money for our neighbors.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me, my team and my family over the years.
With gratitude,
Jack Urbaczewski
