A DISASTER RECOVERY COALITION ESTABLISHED BY

MCLTRG SEPTEMBER 2026 NEWSLETTER

A Message From The Executive Director

The Community Preparedness Outpost, presented by the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu and in partnership with the Malibu Brigade and the Malibu Community Long Term Recovery Group, was a powerful reminder of what is possible when our community comes together.

The Outpost was a
community education and preparedness initiative designed to help transform emergency preparedness into an engaging, hands-on experience through interactive activities, wildfire education, preparedness resources, home hardening information, recovery support, and emergency go-bag distribution, and to inspire action while advancing a shared vision of a more resilient Malibu.

The initiative was made possible with support from American Red Cross, California Community Foundation, Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors - Third District, United Airlines, Good360 and numerous community partners committed to strengthening disaster preparedness and long-term recovery.

Throughout the weekend, more than 2,300 attendees came through the Outpost and more than 750 Emergency Go Bags (provided by United Airlines and Good360) were distributed. Guests also got the opportunity to connect with the Malibu Brigade about home-hardening assessments and participate in a fun “Hang Challenge”; and pick up wildfire evacuation checklists from the Malibu Community Long Term Recovery Group.

The Outpost also connected guests with organizations providing important support and resources both locally and nationally, including the American Red Cross, Canyon Road Construction, Chabad of Malibu, Malibu Community Labor Exchange, and Manzanita School.

A large-scale map and data display highlighting the impacts of the Franklin and Palisades Fires, made possible through data provided by the Department of Angels (click here to view the full report), offered a powerful visual reminder of the communities affected by these fires. The display was also a meaningful reminder of why the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu hosts the Malibu Chili Cook-Off. Net proceeds from the event support the work of the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu, including the Malibu Community Long Term Recovery Group and its Disaster Recovery Services. We hope the display helped fire survivors feel seen, remembered, and supported, and know that we are is still standing with them as they continue their recovery.

Together, we are turning lessons learned into action, strengthening connections, and building a safer, stronger, and more prepared Malibu.

With care,

Shannon Dunn

Impact Report Update: August 2026

This Impact Report above is more than a record of what MCLTRG has accomplished, it is a call to build on that progress. By showing the $3.6 million in direct financial assistance distributed, $3.5 million in donated goods provided, 30,000 hours of care coordination delivered, and 2,600 survivors represented, we are demonstrating why this work matters, how recovery support reaches the community, and what collective action can achieve.

These outcomes strengthen accountability, build trust, and give partners, donors, and residents a clear reason to remain engaged. Behind every number is a person or family moving forward, and our responsibility now is to turn this demonstrated impact into greater support, stronger partnerships, and lasting recovery.

More than 600 days after the LA fires, 2 in 3 survivors are still displaced—and major federal recovery funding still hasn't arrived. Congress can act now. Tell your representatives to #FundRecoveryNow.

Rebuild Centers:

A Valuable Resource For Moving Forward

One piece of feedback we continue to hear from residents working through the rebuilding process is this: visiting a Rebuild Center in person makes a difference.

Survivors have shared that when feeling stuck in the permitting process, sitting down face-to-face with someone who could answer questions and help problem-solve made all the difference. Rather than navigating the process alone, they were able to work through challenges, better understand the next steps, and find a path forward.

If you've been hitting roadblocks or aren't sure where to turn next, we encourage you to visit either the City of Malibu Rebuild Center or the LA County One-Stop Permit Center. The staff are there to help, and their goal is to work with you to find solutions and keep your rebuild moving forward.

See below for details on locations and hours of operation.
