As part of the HRBT Expansion Project, construction crews will begin work around South Mallory Street and on the Mallory Street Bridge in Hampton beginning Sunday, May 23.
Work will take place on the I-64 eastbound off-ramp to South Mallory Street and on the Mallory Street Bridge. Construction activities include placing temporary concrete barriers, shifting traffic, roadway striping, and bridge demolition.
Pedestrians will have access to a sidewalk during each phase of construction.
The new, wider Mallory Street Bridge will contain a center turn lane, two general-purpose lanes, bike lanes and sidewalks on both the north side and south side of the bridge.
Mallory Street Bridge construction is slated for completion late 2022.
Travel restrictions include possible delays, reduced speeds, and possible detours in some areas. Lane closures, detours, and traffic pacing are subject to change based on weather conditions and other factors.
