Minister's Moment

This Sunday, we honor and celebrate Motherhood-the qualities or spirit associated with mothering. Biologically speaking, we all have a mother. Whether we know them or not, someone (some woman) nurtured and protected us long enough for us to enter safely into the world. As important as this aspect of mothering is, the more important role is that of nurturing and guiding our growth to maturity. While the biologic aspects of carrying and birthing are exclusive to women, we all possess the ability to mother. Furthermore, we know that many modern families consist of parents and children from more than one marriage. Therefore, we may have had more than one mother. Yet regardless of who you recognize as Mother in your life, we wish to honor them. So, in honor of mothers, Reverend Gaea Swinford will share a lesson drawn from the theme of Mother’s Wisdom.

We also invite you to bring your mother with you this Sunday. If not in person, then in your heart. And remember, motherhood is more than biology. And bring a picture of your mother or anyone who filled that role in your life. We will put all the photos on the altar so that we can show them special honor.
