#HighlandsLife

June brought all the summer feels to The Highlands. Families gathered at Discovery Cove for our first Waves & Reels movie night, where Moana 2 played under the stars alongside lemonade, popcorn, and a crowd-favorite candy dispenser. The waterpark stayed buzzing with laughter, splashes, and easygoing afternoons. It’s safe to say—summer has officially arrived.

Hurricane Awareness: Be Prepared, Stay Safe

Living in Texas, we know how unpredictable hurricanes can be. As we enter hurricane season, it’s crucial for all residents to stay informed and prepared. A few simple steps today can make all the difference when a storm approaches.

Know Your Risk

Hurricanes bring strong winds, heavy rain, flooding, and power outages. Stay up to date with local weather forecasts and emergency alerts. Visit Ready.gov for important updates.

Prepare Your Emergency Kit

Stock up on essential supplies:

  • Water – At least one gallon per person per day
  • Non-perishable food – Enough for several days
  • Flashlights and batteries – Power outages are common
  • Medications & first aid kit – Keep prescriptions handy
  • Important documents – Store them in a waterproof bag

Make a Plan

  • Know your evacuation routes and shelters
  • Create a communication plan with family and neighbors
  • Secure your home by trimming trees and reinforcing windows

Stay Informed

Monitor local news, listen to official instructions, and follow evacuation orders if necessary. It’s better to prepare early than to react in panic.

Hurricanes are powerful, but preparedness empowers us to face them with confidence. Stay safe, stay informed, and look out for your community.

Reminder: Fireworks Are Not Permitted in The Highlands

Following the Fourth of July, the community association office received numerous calls from residents expressing concerns about loud fireworks. Many reported that the noise caused significant stress to pets and raised safety concerns for both people and property.

We’d like to remind all residents that fireworks are strictly prohibited in The Highlands, as outlined in the community’s deed restrictions (see below). One of the reasons many residents chose to live in this neighborhood is because of these rules—specifically, the restriction on fireworks helps maintain a peaceful and safe environment for everyone.

Thank you for your understanding and for being considerate of your neighbors.

For purposes of this Section, the discharge of fireworks is both an uncurable violation and a violation that is considered a threat to public health or safety pursuant to Section 209.006 of the Texas Property Code. Accordingly, any Owner discharging fireworks anywhere within the Community, or any Owner upon whose Lot(s) fireworks are discharged, is in violation of this Section of the Declaration and subject to enforcement action by the Association for uncurable violations or violations that pose a threat to public safety in accordance with the "Governing Documents Enforcement and Fine Policy," which has been or may be recorded in the Official Public Records of Real Property of Montgomery County, Texas, as same may be amended from time to time.

The Association and The Highlands Community Foundation, Inc. may discharge fireworks within the Community as a part of a professional fireworks show or Community event. In these instances, the above restriction does not apply to the Association or The Highlands Community Foundation, Inc.

Please Follow Trash Storage Rules

One of the most common calls to the association office from residents is about trash containers being left on the street or being visible from the street. Just a reminder that, per the Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions, "no garbage or trash container may be maintained on a lot so as to be visible from a public street in the community...except to make the same available for collection and then only on the day of collection."
