An Every-So-Often Update from The Town

Fluoride Removed from Drinking Water

Fluoride is a dangerous chemical to handle and process and requires a special license to do so. Onancock has no one with that license, so we discontinued adding fluoride to the drinking water. The Department of Health does not require fluoride. Here are some helpful hints. The best option for your children is to consult your dentist or pediatrician about using a fluoride supplement, as they can assess your child's individual needs and recommend the appropriate dosage, whether fluoride drops, tablets, or fluoride toothpaste, depending on age.

Public Restrooms OPEN

The public restrooms are open after months of construction and thoughtful design work!

They are located in the well-lit alley between the Corner Bakery and the New Welcome Center.

The police are locking and unlocking the restrooms until the timed locks arrive.

Brief Project Update

  • The Police Station renovation is complete. They have moved in and have a lobby and a window for you to interact with them.
  • The Welcome Center and Public Restrooms are complete. The Welcome Center is being decorated, and we will have a ribbon cutting when it's ready.
  • Bring your rack cards to Town Hall in exchange for Onancock Walking Maps. Your rack cards will be placed in the Welcome Center
  • Be sure to invite visitors to download the Onancock App. Look for Onancock on either platform.
  • The Streetlights you picked are on order for the Town Square.
  • Street signs (like the one at Ames and Market - (but taller) are on order and will be installed as they come in.
  • Wayfinding signs (signs that direct visitors to points of interest) have been designed, and the final touches are being applied.
  • Sunset Park (patio at the water's edge at the Wharf) is being bid.
  • The air conditioning upstairs in the Town Hall is complete—after a little cleaning, it will be ready for use.
  • The Queen Street renovation's parking space and traffic pattern are nearly complete. We have retained an artist planner to give us a sense of what it will look like
  • The fence around the oak tree will be installed after Thanksgiving.
