ICYMI: Budget Alert for Central School-Support Teams
Last week, central school-support team leaders received this memo announcing that DPS is establishing a temporary hiring freeze on non-essential employees .

Here is what you need to know:

  • As we transition leaders and continue negotiations with DCTA, DPS needs to find savings from our current budget. We have extensive feedback from the community to the board on the most important areas of focus for our schools.

  • Effective Wednesday, Dec. 12, we established a temporary hiring freeze on non-essential employees.

  • Exceptions to the hiring freeze require approval from a member of the senior leadership team.

If you have specific questions, please reach out to your manager and/or HR partner. We recognize that you may have additional questions, and we are committed to sharing additional details as soon as they are available.
CollaboRATE is Coming Soon: Help Clarify Questions for Your Team
On Jan. 4, all DPS team members will receive the CollaboRATE survey -- an opportunity for team members to provide confidential feedback on their leaders and DPS as a whole. Please schedule time and provide computer access to make sure your team participates in CollaboRATE between Jan. 4 and Jan. 18.

Action Required: Central school-support team members will be asked to answer a number of questions about “MY DEPARTMENT.” Inform your team before the survey goes out about how to interpret “MY DEPARTMENT” for the purpose of the survey. Use this email template to clarify with your team.

New This Year: Voluntary self-identification questions and shorter leader survey! These important changes will contribute to a more inclusive and effective survey. Please use the following resources to talk with your team about these changes:

LIFT Leaders: Pick Up a Copy of 'For Your Improvement'
"For Your Improvement" is a book that supports leaders in reflecting on opportunities for growth and development and building development plans for their teams. It includes 67 targeted competencies that align with many LIFT competencies.

As part of DPS' investment in building great leaders, copies of "For Your Improvement" are available to managers of team members participating in LIFT. To reserve a copy, email lift@dpsk12.org . Updates & FYI
Access School Calendar Reports on The Commons
DPS has streamlined the process of collecting and distributing school calendars, which means you can now find reports with key information from the calendars on the School Calendar Reports page on The Commons. These reports are updated nightly with the information available in Infinite Campus.

Team members from Payroll, Transportation Services, Food Services, Human Resources, Student Submissions and other departments should reference these reports for school calendar information you may need.

All schools, including charters, added their 2018-19 school calendar directly into Infinite Campus, indicating contact days or vacation days that vary from the district calendar. The update process for 2019-20 school calendars will take place in spring 2019.

If you have questions, email David Woessner in DoTS.
Review Changes to Termination Dates
As part of last year’s True Pay implementation, pay calendars for school-based employees who do not work over the summer was adjusted to start on Aug. 1. This change ensures that new employees are paid earlier and that pay increases are in effect when employees start their school year.

This summer, we will align the contract year and pay calendars to run from Aug. 1 through July 31. Employees who are not returning for the 2019-20 school year will be terminated as of July 31. They will receive their last paycheck on Aug. 7. Teachers and SSPs will receive their final ProComp payment on Aug. 22. Additional information will be provided in January.
Talent Acquisition
Support Diversity Recruiting Efforts
Talent Acquisition (TA) is committed to providing you a diverse candidate pool. As part of the Denver Plan 2020, DPS implemented goals around this effort -- and we welcome your suggestions of other networking, community or contacts geared toward helping this effort.

Some of our ongoing outreach efforts include posting on diverse job boards, building partnerships with the Asian/Black/Hispanic Chambers of Commerce -- and leveraging those partnerships to push DPS jobs out to their communities, attending diversity specific conferences such as the NABSE Conference and the ALAS Summit, and direct sourcing of passive candidates of color across the nation.

If you have additional ideas on diversity recruiting efforts, please email careers@dpsk12.org .
