Greetings!

What are you doing to sharpen your skills this summer?

Now is a great time to read, reach out, and review or create your career roadmap all while enjoying the ease summer brings. Focus on three common areas of opportunity--how you are managing up, down, and across, at work and even at home - being intentional in communications and relationships makes a big difference.

"Managing up means moving up"

As we consider work-life, a pattern that emerges when coaching high potentials who are striving to advance or build their leadership brand is confronting conflict. Coaching sessions frequently start out by unpacking conflicts, triggers, and then exploring strategies to increase influence. It sometimes sounds like this..." My manager said this"..., "my peers won't"..." one of my direct reports drives me crazy...".

Managing up is oftentimes simply communicating with those higher-level professionals to ensure fair, consistent, conscious communication is occurring. It's what we say, the words we choose, and the tone that matters. In fact surprisingly:
After seeing this stat, it makes more sense as to why there is so much emphasis on communication, Conversational Intelligence®, group dynamics, etc.

Conscious communication is vitally important. What do you think? Where can you be more conscious in your communications?

The featured eBooks below offer different perspectives on related topics - especially how to Disagree Effectively as you practice how to manage up, down, and across. Check out our full eBook library to sharpen your skills this summer.
STAY TUNED for more tips next month on: What is managing up?
This Managing Up series is excerpted from my "Growing from Inferior to Influential" workshop and coaching insights.

My clients (mid-level associates, high-potential leaders to C-suite executives/owners) have tracked measurable progress in increasing their influence, finding their voice, and advancing their visibility.

P.S. Want to explore your executive presence, influence without authority, or other leadership areas? Set up a complimentary consultation regarding coaching or workshops.
