Redevelopment Options

for Existing High School Site to be Studied in 2023

The N.D. Department of Commerce recently announced approval of Mandan's application for a $100,000 grant for placemaking for the existing high school site. City staff will next issue a request for proposals for selection of a consulting firm to assist with a site and market analysis, public input, and comparison of options intended to result in a plan that will help entice interest and investment in redevelopment of the approximate 18-acre site. The plan needs to be finished by Oct. 1, 2023. The new high school will open in August 2024, so the soonest the site will be available for redevelopment is late 2024 or early 2025.

Chamber EDC Has New Economic Development Plan

On Oct. 18, The Next Move Group presented the Bismarck Mandan Chamber EDC’s economic development strategic plan to elected officials, community leaders and organization board members. The plan outlined eight strategies proposed for the Chamber EDC to lead. The strategies relate to marketing, product development tied to available land and sites for industrial and business growth, small business development, government affairs, plus riverfront development and winter tourism. Another recommendation, to be tackled in cooperation with the respective cities and counties, is addressing the tight housing situation and lack of affordable, entry level housing to attract young workers. Chamber leaders next will determine which items to tackle in the coming year.
