A Message from the MLC Council
|
|
The March Council Meeting was held last Sunday. The council appointed Pat Sartini to fill the vacant council position that was a result of us not having enough candidates at our last election. Pat will serve as the liaison to the Worship & Music Team. Thank you Pat for stepping up!
The Treasurer’s report shows that although our February giving was $3,400 below plan, annual giving is $500 above plan due to a generous gift in January. Our spending was $930 over plan primarily due to us being able to keep Lynn Marlow on staff longer than planned.
We agreed to form a Finance Team to help with solutions to spending and stewardship. They will bring their recommendations to the council via the Treasurer.
We are making progress on repairing the parking lot. We have had four companies come out to do estimates. There is still some work to be done before we are ready to decide on a contractor.
We were sad to announce that Marilyn Sussan has resigned as Vice President due to personal reasons. Thank you Marilyn for all you did as VP, especially getting our new constitution drafted and approved in 2020! We intend to appoint a replacement to fill out her term which will end this year.
We need two members to go to the Florida/Bahamas Synod Annual Assembly as voting members. All expenses are paid for hotel and food. Please reach out to Pastor Anna if you are interested in serving in this way.
We agreed to do a 3-month trial of adding 5 hours/month to our Administrative Assistant's time to dedicate to our social media presence. The council feels this is an important area that needs more attention.
Troy Borema
MLC Council President

The Seder is a traditional, communal dinner where the story of the Israelites exodus from Egypt where they were slaves is retold, and food plays a central role in the storytelling.
The Passover Seder comes from the Hebrew word meaning Passover order/arrangement. It is a ritual feast that marks the beginning of the Jewish holiday of Passover. Many Christians find that participating in a Seder supper helps them to connect with the roots of the Lord's Supper. As a result, Seder suppers have become a popular way for Christians to mark Maundy Thursday as we will be doing this year.
In the time of Jesus, the food wasn't eaten during a formal seated gathering at a rectangular table, as shown in many religious art paintings, but with Jesus and his apostles reclining on floor cushions, as the Romans did at that time. (We will not make you do that).
The Seder is a ritual performed by a community or by multiple generations of a family, involving a retelling of the story of the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt. This story is in the Book of Exodus (Shemot) in the Hebrew Bible. The Seder itself is based on the Biblical verse commanding Jews to retell the story of the Exodus from Egypt:
"You shall tell your child on that day, saying, 'It is because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.'" (Exodus 13:8)
Seder customs include telling the story, discussing the story, drinking four cups of wine, eating matza, partaking of symbolic foods placed on the Passover Seder plate, and reclining in celebration of freedom. We will, of course, have grape juice available for those who do not consume wine. Water will be available on all the tables as well.
We hope that you will join us for our first Seder Meal at Mandarin Lutheran Church!
We will sending out an electronic signup tomorrow, as well as having a signup sheet in the Welcome Center. We ask that you help us offset the cost of the meal by an $8 donation per adult attending and $5 per child between the ages of 4-10.

Lights, Camera, Action!
We are looking for a few members to help with producing our Online Sunday Worship service. This is an exciting new ministry for our church that reaches almost as many people as we have in person. Bob Sussan built this from the ground up starting two years ago and has developed it into a professional production.

Like signs we see along the roads that tell us what to do, we see signs along the way on our Lenten journey that show us the way to Christ.
In our Lenten worship last evening, we were reminded to yield to the Father’s will for us in our lives, just as Jesus yielded to his will when he prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, “Not my will, but yours be done.”
|
|
Easter Lily orders will begin this Sunday. Lilies are $11 each this year and will be displayed around the altar for the Easter Sunday Service and may be taken home after.
Payment may be made by cash, check, or Tithe.ly and all orders are due by Wednesday, April 6th.

Take a Meal to the Mwakyanjala's
|
|
Edson and Shonte Mwakyanjala welcomed baby Sekela on February 22, 2022, a few months ahead of her due date.
While Edson and Shonte are busy loving on Sekela, MLC would like to make sure they are fed! Meals are needed no more than two times per week. Please only sign up for a spot during a week that has one or less sign-up.
Because much of their time is currently spent at the hospital, we are asking to please deliver items cold so that they may be placed in a cooler at the front door on the day of your choosing, after 2 pm, and reheated.
Please no seafood, there are no other dietary or allergy restrictions.
To sign up for a day, click the button below and select the date that you would like to provide food.
