US Philippines Society kicks off New Year

Dear Directors,

We invite your attention to the information below, including minutes of the board meeting, agenda with approved resolutions and other documents, and a sampling of press coverage.

Active participation by Society Directors and guests who took part in events surrounding the January 23-25 Board Meeting in Manila, along with crucial support from the Philippine government, especially Ambassador Jose L. Cuisia, Jr., and the private sector, made the program's successful outcome possible.

A special "thank you" to Co-Chair M. V. Pangilinan for hosting the Society's Board of Directors meeting and program, and to Honorary Co-Chair Washington Sycip for his deep involvement and for graciously opening his home for the "kick-off" Dinner!

The delegation of high level visitors, led by Co-Chair John D. Negroponte, Honorary Co-Chair Hank Greenberg, Society President John Maisto, and Ambassador Cuisia, met with President Aquino, Chief Justice Sereno, top administration officials, academic and private sector leaders. The three-day program promoted US-Philippine business ties, afforded one-on-one opportunities for the exchange of ideas, and attracted wide media coverage.

Thanks to Director Ramon Del Rosario for organizing the Policy Forum and Business Dialogue that provided such a useful exchange on strategic and business issues, and to Director Dennis Wright of Peregrine who led a fascinating and highly informative tour of Clark to showcase progress toward developing a vibrant regional commercial and transportation hub in Central Luzon. A note of sincere appreciation to Mr. Rod Hills and the impressive work taking place under his sponsorship at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) to further the cause of "good governance." Also, a warm thank you to Ambassador Harry Thomas and his team at the U.S. Embassy for their support and for hosting the reception.

We recognize the involvement and value feedback from so many members of the delegation and look forward to your continuing support as the Society carries out its mission of elevating the profile of today's Philippines during the year ahead.

Mabuhay and thank you for such a promising start to the Society's work in 2013!
