Honorary Degree Recipients - Brian Rist '77, '22 and Kim Rist
Brian Rist '77, '22 and Kim Rist were awarded Doctor of Humane Letters honorary degrees in recognition of their mentoring and engagement with UMass Lowell students, as well as their continued advocacy of university initiatives through the Rist DifferenceMaker Institute and the Rist Institute for Sustainability and Energy.

Brian is a member of the Manning School of Business Advisory board and the founder of Storm Smart, the largest manufacturer and installer of hurricane protection products in the country. Brian shares his experiences and expertise with students as an ambassador for the annual Rist DifferenceMaker competitions and by working with graduate students via the Master of Science in Business Analytics capstone projects. Brian is committed to the success of Manning students, and his feedback to the dean and faculty, as well as his mentoring of our students, is invaluable.

Kim works tirelessly to support youth and education initiatives. She is involved with the funding of local elementary and middle school makerspaces, and serves on the Board of Directors for the IMAG History and Science Center, a hands-on science and aquarium center in Fort Myers, FL. Kim is part of the Believing in Girls Society at the Pace Center for Girls, which invests in the future of young girls, helping create strong and empowered women in the community.

For over 10 years, Manning students have received scholarships through the Rist Families Endowed Scholarship Fund. This year, Brian and Kim established UMass Lowell's first-ever endowed deanship, which further impacts Manning School of Business students and their professional development by allowing them to attend conferences, join professional groups, network with alumni, and conduct research with faculty.
