Mansfield University mourns the loss of Dr. Charles (Doc) Frank Seidel who passed away at the age of 84 in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Dr. Seidel was a professor in the Psychology Department for 40 years until his retirement in 2009.

From the Psychology Department:
Charlie will be greatly missed by the campus community, especially by members of the Psychology Department. He was the founder of the Psychology Department at MU and the first chair of the department. He was beloved by students and his courses were always highly enrolled.

He loved to support student-athletes and established a scholarship in his parents' names that was directed toward psychology major athletes.

When speaking with former chairs of the psychology department this week about Charlie, they told me that he is well-remembered for his "dash". His office was elegantly furnished, he dressed fashionably (always wearing a sport coat and tie or turtleneck), he enjoyed driving his sporty Corvette, and his red academic robes with beret-style cap often made him the best dressed faculty member at commencement.

A memorial service for family and friends will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations to be made in Dr. Seidel’s name to one of the following organizations or scholarships:
  • The C. Frank and Helen M. Seidel Endowment through the Mansfield Foundation by mail to 71 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA 16933 or made online at give.mansfieldfoundation.org.
  • Muscular Dystrophy Association, mda.org
